While the official deadline for Digital Games bracket completion has passed, some matches haven’t been reported yet. Let’s have a look at the medalists so far!

European Counter-Strike 1.6 is complete, and The Skurvels have taken gold after a win over esuba.HAL3000.cs1.6. Congrats to the Polish powerhouse!

In North American of Duty 4 (PS3), meanwhile, DeathB4Dishonor dishonored the memory of Teflon Hearts and took gold! They’re followed by Xbox 360 NA counterparts Team OMG, who defeated Hellz Remedy. Multi-gaming team LowLandLions KO’d TeamDruidz in PC European CoD4. And last, but most certainly not least, #1 seed Ready to Kill Clan completed a rout of the South American PC bracket with a win over Nex Impetus.

On the RTS side of things, KhuFu_Ownz won the North American C&C3:Kane’s Wrath bracket, defeating KiFireLedius. [x17]Pill dropped ~FireFly~ on his head 3-0 to win the Asia/Oceania C&C3:KW bracket, and knolz sealed victory in Europe by topping golfplayer.

Next up: StarCraft: Brood War. This classic title’s North American bracket was overrun by Brol1’s Zerg swarm. LML did the same to the European SC:BW bracket. Continued…

After a tumultuous first round of bracket play in the Digital Games, things are falling into place for the second round.

In Counter-Strike: 1.6 Europe, first-seeded emulate look to drop #16 peXg.young.cs, while #2 neP face off against #15 LowLandLions.cs. emulate are already world champions in a different tournament, so it should come as no surprise that they are heavily favored to have their way with this bracket. We will see, however, if a lower seed can upset them.

The North American Call of Duty 4 PS3  bracket sees #1 ONEARMYONELIFE matched against DeathB4Dishonor, while #2 Fear is Better Than Respect will fight#15 Hippo Attack force. I haven’t run into any idle speculation about who is best in this segment of the competition, so the field seems open to all! Continued…

With only two weeks remaining in the ladder phase of the Digital Games, many of the ranks are starting to sort themselves out. However, teams and players can be leapfrogged with ease, so danger could lurk around the corner for our ladder leaders. Let’s check out the current rankings.

On the South American Call of Duty 4 ladder, Ready to Kill Clan maintain their #1 position despite a losing record. In the coming days, however, they will face a strong challenge from brazilianclan. This all-Brazilian ladder may come down to the wire within the next two weeks, as it’s difficult to grind out a lot of matches in a 5v5 format. We’ll keep an eye on it as we move forward.

Command & Conquer 3 stalwart knolz continues his ownage in the European C&C3: Kane’s Wrath competition. He only leads 2nd place LeOwNzall by 40 points, however, so he needs to stay sharp. On the North American front, KiFireLedius holds on to his lead, as well. As an aside, be sure to read KiFire’s blog about how he feels EA isn’t supporting Kane’s Wrath. He wrote it over the July 4th holiday so many of you may have missed it. Continued…

The last few days of Digital Games ladder play has been marked by some turnover on the South American Call of Duty 4 ladder, with Ready to Kill Clan taking over the top spot from O MAR ABRIU VEI! and Canibais. This is all despite the fact that R2KC hold a losing record–it just goes to show that activity pays off in ladder play, wins and losses aside.

On the European Command & Conquer 3 ladder, Technique has extended his win streak in first place, while knolz and spug3t bring up 2nd and 3rd, respectively. KiFireLedius still holds the lead on the North American C&C3 ladder.

Also, this is becoming old hat by now, but Paladyn continues to decimate the competition on the European Warcraft III scene. He now holds a 43-5 record, with no apparent intention to stop anytime soon. Ditto for North American Trackmania Nations Forever leader G2_Wolf, who stands at 8-0.

Last, but certainly not least, European FIFA stalwart dragua is clinging to a narrow points lead over icantplaygood; this drama will certainly play out in the weeks to come.

Registration is still open for the DG ladders. Sign up to represent your country against some of the best competitors in the world, across thirteen different titles.

Players and teams are warming up to the ladder format for the Digital Games, and several previously-inactive ladders are beginning to show signs of life.

In Counter-Strike 1.6, French team ONE4ALL sports a 1-1 record and 1115 points on the European ladder, while UK’s neP hold second, and Portugal’s mK! has a handle on third.

The Call of Duty 4  South American ladder is Brazilian-dominated, and O MAR ABRIU VEI ! has tied Canibais for first place with 1200 points and a 2-0 record. This motion bumped Ready to Kill Clan down into third.

KiFireLedius, meanwhile, has taken over the Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath ladder with wins over CoDster and JuDgEpowr, but a loss to KhuFu_OwNz. Khufu is now inactive, possibly due to being demoralized after flaming GGL’s ladder system over the course of several days. The European Kane’s Wrath ladder is actually faring a little better, as flying Dutchman Technique sports a 2-1 record and 1240 points, but a 1L streak. Can knolz take advantage? We’ll find out in the coming days. Continued…

Ladder play continues in GGL’s Digital Games, with a number of standout players and teams coming to the forefront to represent their countries and gaming communities.

The most rabid players reside on the Warcraft III European ladder, where Paladyn continues to feast on players who are challenging his first place spot. Paladyn now holds a 34-5 record, 4440 points and a 3W streak.

dmZfederal (22-10, 3600, 2L) and iesbly4eg (24-4, 3480, 3W) are holding it down in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

On the North American StarCraft front, Artosis has held onto his first place spot, although he does have a 2L streak. This could be problematic because, if memory serves correctly, there are no newbies on this ladder. We’ll continue to keep an eye on Artosis as the ladders go on.

In European StarCraft news, LoWeLy leads the ladder with a 5-2 record, 1580 points and an unfortunate 1L streak. Continued…

The new Call of Duty 5, er World at War, will get its video debut this weekend, June 21-22 on Xbox LIVE.

Unfortunately for us fans of CoD4: Modern Warfare, World at War is set during the Pacific campaign of World War II. Of course, this doesn’t mean it can’t be a great game. Developer Treyarch plans to explore the darkest depths of war, adding a survival-horror feel to the game.

Additionally, Geoff Keighly of SpikeTV will debut the game on GameTrailers TV Saturday, June 21 at 1:00AM PDT.

Call of Duty: World of War is developed by Treyarch and published by Activision.

I got a chance to sit down with Michael “Mike-V” Veguira and Michael “zzirGrizz” Graves, two players from championship teams in GGL’s Call of Duty 4 tournament, to discuss their path to victory and what they’ll be doing with their prizes. Mike-V won the PlayStation 3 bracket with his team XoXo Hugs and Kisses, while zzirGrizz won the Xbox 360 bracket with Side X Side.

Without further ado, let’s get underway!

GGL: How do you like the new TV and Future Weapons prize package?

zzirGriz: It’s pretty nice, but I play on a 65 ” HDTV w/ fiber optic surround sound already…lol.
Mike-V: It’s great, definitely an upgrade from my 19″ TV. [Editor’s note: Wtf, this guy is a trooper.]

GGL: What is your favorite weapon in Call of Duty 4?

zzirGriz: M40 sniper w/ ACOG.
Mike-V: Desperadoo likes the silenced AK-47 and Madmike likes to use an M4, but my weapon of choice would have to be an M16 and occasionally a P90 or MP5 depending on the situation.

GGL: What is your custom class of choice and why?

zzirGriz: M40 sniper w/ ACOG Stopping Power / RPG / Steady Aim. Reason: Ask anyone who googles zzirGrizz.
Mike-V: M16, red dot sight, Desert Eagle, 3 frag grenades, Stopping power, and Steady aim. With that class you have Stopping Power to counter Juggernaut classes and if you get caught in close-quarter combat you have steady aim which allows you to shoot accurately without scoping. Continued…

Of note is the poll that ran several months ago on the GGL site; six of the top eight games from the poll have been selected for the Digital Games program (though I question the polling audience, as DoTA, an incredibly popular game, ranked very low on the poll). Here’s the poll image (follow the jump): Continued…
