GGL CoD:WW, Resistance: Retribution ladders end

gglrotator5-26-09-codww-resistance-200

Update: View the Resistance: Retribution brackets here: 2v2 and 4v4.

With $27,000 in prize packs on the line, hardened competitors went to battle on the GGL ladders this weekend to finalize their standing on our Call of Duty: World at War (Xbox 360 and PS3) and Resistance: Retribution (2v2 and 4v4 on PSP) ladders.

The dust is settling now, and we have two #1s from CoD:WW and two first seeds from the R:R competitions. A few administrative tasks need to be sorted out before we can officially declare the winners, but right now LagStars (CoD:WW 360), Hate Us (CoD:WW PS3), ARJUN (R:R 2v2) and Six Feet Under (R:R 4v4) are in control.

Note that the Resistance: Retribution competition will be going into a bracket format with the top teams immediately after ladder winners are verified, so there’s still more action to come.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Call of Duty: World at War roundup: May 15

Less than 10 days remain in GGL’s Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 tournament. With $2,000 in prizes on the line and the competition down to the wire, each team is looking to crush as many poor souls as possible in the ladder grind. Let’s take a look at the current top 5s for both ladders!

Xbox 360 : PlayStation 3
Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak : Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak
1 LagStars 4380 33/5 6W : 1 Hate Us 5580 46/7 22W
2 Bolt Action Killers 4160 31/4 8W : 2 xX_COD GoDz_Xx 4620 42/7 3W
3 CMS STUDS 3490 24/13 1W : 3 BabY faCe KiLLeRs 4605 37/15 2L
4 —T a C t I C s— 3165 22/3 5W : 4 bko 4590 36/9 3L
5 Gamers United 2920 24/10 1L : 5 RAID 4360 34/32 2W

Since our last update, Hate Us have gone on a monstrous tear to preserve their place on top of the PS3 ladder. It’s not without good reason, either: CoD GoDz are hot on their heels after having put together a 42/7 record and 3W streak themselves.

On the 360 side, Lagstars are barely holding on vs. Bolt Action Killers and it seems that a leapfrog could happen at any moment–especially given the 8W streak that BAK is building up. CMS STUDS and the teams below will have to string together a huge winning streak to capture first at this rate.

Keep your eyes peeled for more updates out of this tournament as they happen. I have a feeling the real drama will be between Hate Us and CoD GoDz.

Call of Duty: World at War roundup: May 8

codmappack200With each week, we march closer to the May 24 deadline that will conclude our Call of Duty: World at War tournament, featuring $2,000 in custom CoD packs.

Our ladder leaders find themselves in a back and forth king of the hill contest that results in a lot of match play per week. If one team falls behind in the race, it runs the risk of getting knocked way down the rankings.

Let’s have a look at our top fives on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 as of this Friday, with some retrospective. With some luck, we’ll be able to tell where these talented soldiers are going…

ox 360 : PlayStation 3
Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak : Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak
1 LagStars 3660 26/4 1W : 1 Hate Us 4380 34/4 10W
2 Bolt Action Killers 3560 24/4 2W : 2 xX_COD GoDz_Xx 4080 30/5 2L
3 CMS STUDS 3250 22/10 6W : 3 BabY faCe KiLLeRs 3385 30/7 1L
4 —T a C t I C s— 2890 19/3 2W : 4 bko 3370 28/6 4W
5 Gamers United 2760 18/7 6W : 5 RAID 3720 25/20 1L

As before, none of the top five-ranked teams are safe from attacks by lower squads. Some other top threats include Alcoholics, Envious and UniversalSoldierCrew, who were knocked from the fifth spot by Gamers United.

Will Lagstars take first place in the tourney? Not if Bolt Action Killers have anything to say about it…

$2,000 Call of Duty: World at War standings report

codmappack200With two weeks remaining in GGL’s Call of Duty: World at War tournament, the top teams are fighting hard to establish a pecking order and get their hands on our CoD prizing.

Right now a fierce battle is occurring between LagStars and Bolt Action Killers for first place on the Xbox 360 ladder, while Hate Us and CoD GoDz duke it out on the PS3 side. Let’s have a look at our top five teams for both ladders and speculate on where this is going…

ox 360 : PlayStation 3
Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak : Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak
1 LagStars 3320 23/2 9W : 1 Hate Us 3900 29/4 5W
2 Bolt Action Killers 3160 21/3 2W : 2 xX_COD GoDz_Xx 3740 27/3 1W
3 CMS STUDS 2970 19/10 3W : 3 BabY faCe KiLLeRs 3385 24/4 1L
4 —T a C t I C s— 2890 19/3 2W : 4 bko 3370 24/5 6W
5 UniversalSoliderCrew 2540 14/16 1L : 5 RAID 3090 19/14 1L

None of the first-ranked teams are safe for the time being, as they can get leapfrogged fairly easily by lower squads. Teams hovering around the top five include Envious, Alcoholics and Gamers United (360), as well as former ladder leaders Rapesauce, Gamers with Attitude and PLUMBERZ (PS3).

$2,000 Call of Duty: World at War weekly roundup

codmappack200
$2,000 CoD:WW Map Pack 1 tournament. Registration OPEN March 19 to May 17.
360 PS3

If you’ve been following the Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 1 tournament here on GGL, you’ll know that we saw a big shakeup last week.

Unfortunately one of the server chimps in our server room slipped on a banana peel and reset the competition.

Oddly enough, many of the top teams from before the reset have risen close to the top of the heap again. That’s good news, data loss notwithstanding. We’ll make sure it never happens again, so here are your standings for this week:

box 360 : PlayStation 3
Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak : Rank Team Points Win/Loss Streak
1 Tactics 2320 13/1 9W : 1 Rapesauce 2170 11/4 2L
2 Bolt Action Killers 2320 13/1 11W : 2 COD Godz 2100 11/0 11W
3 Alcoholics 2200 11/9 2W : 3 Plumberz 2090 11/5 2L
4 LagStars 2100 11/0 18W : 4 RAID 2040 9/8 3L
5 Universal Soldier Queue 2010 9/11 1L : 5 Gods O War 1950 10/2 2W

Tactics and Bolt Action Killers are tied for the lead on the Xbox 360 ladder. These guys have been going at it for a couple of weeks now but are playing lower ranked teams to maintain their standings. Man up and play. This isn’t a “feast on lower ranked teams for prizes” ladder.

On the PS3 side of things, Rapesauce continue to hold first place but face a strong challenge from newcomers COD Godz.

We’ll keep an eye on the tournament as it progresses and these hardened competitors battle it out for supremacy and prizes.

Remember that you can still sign up for both ladders at the Call of Duty game page. Get to competing!

Team FeaR crowned champions of BAGL Call of Duty: World at War competition

The dust has settled in our Call of Duty: World at War bracket, with Team FeaR defeating 3rd_Degree 2-1 in the final.

FeaR’s run to the trophy seemed as improbable as could be; coming into the bracket, they held the 16th seed owing to a late start in the ladder qualifier.

Once again, ladder or no ladder, the best team came out on top. In single elimination, the “any given Sunday” mentality reigns supreme.

For their trouble, FeaR win four $300 GameStop gift cards (worth a total of $1,200). 3rd_Degree win four $150 GameStop gift cards ($600).

Congrats to all competitors!

BAGL: Call of Duty World at War down to final four

Four teams have soldiered through the battlefield in our BAGL Call of Duty World at War competition to be the last men standing. Who will be victorious out from this final four stage? Let’s examine the matchups.

.:: TeaM FeaR ::. vs. Z-Hour

FeaR stormed onto the ladder scene late with a huge run, ending in a 10-1 record. These guys are clearly serious about their gaming and will test their mettle against another latecomer in Z-Hour (who also sported a 10-1 record at the end of the ladder). It just goes to show that even if you grind up to first place in the ladder, it doesn’t guarantee a run in single-elim land when we switch to brackets.

This matchup is too close to call, as neither team appears to have a record advantage. Admins will be on hand for this match, so keep it clean, and may the best team win!

Team cAv vs. 3rd_Degree

On the opposite end of the bracket, two ladder owners will face off. cAv (18-13 ladder record) and 3rd_Degree (13-5) rivaled each other in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, during the ladder phase. Now they’ll finally settle the matter once and for all to see who has the better team.

Once again, admins will be spectating, so don’t even think about glitching or giving us any roster troubles.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get down to the finals in this competition! Good luck to all competitors!

BAGL Call of Duty: World at War elite eight set

With only one week remaining in the BAGL Call of Duty: World at War bracket, the field of play has been whittled down to eight teams. Many brave soldiers were crushed under their tank treads, so here are the remaining matchups:

#9 [TeAm MuRda] vs. .:: TeaM FeaR ::.

#4 The Mormon Ballers vs. #12 Z-Hour

#3 3rd_Degree vs. #11 SlitherySquad

#2 Team cAv vs. #7 Cryptic Heroes

Stay tuned for updates from the front lines as we get them!
