ClanBase’s Kincaid submitted this report.

Personal choice and civil liberties for gamers took another bashing as China’s Ministry of Culture published details of ten games it deems “suitable” for minors.

In an effort to “purify the ‘on-line environment,” ten games have been selected by the ministry’s on-line games censorship committee, that are deemed healthy and can “enhance intelligence.” The games are all domestic products so you won’t see the likes of World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike or Call of Duty on the list.

Instead they are made up of five role playing games, four recreational/chess games and one educational game.

This isn’t the first time though - in 2005 People’s Daily Online published an article relating to the Culture Minister’s 15 clean online games. Another list was collated again in January 2006. Continued…

The crew over at ClanBase has interviewed superstar game designer CliffyB about e-Sports, the gaming industry, and his gaming background. This is the first of many more mainstream interviews that ClanBase plans, so check this excerpt and head over there for the full story.

ClanBase: Do you see competitive gaming as a sport?

Turn on ESPN late at night and tell me what you see. Trick shot pool. Log cutting. Poker. I believe that if a part of your body is moving, your brain is engaged, and people are willing to watch then it’s a sport.

The long awaited PAM, made by bullet-worm, the original maker of the CoD2 PAM, has released the first public beta of the mod for Call of Duty 4. With all the new ClanBase settings included in the release, it will be now even easier to start playing the game.

The new config that is due to be announced soon on the ladders, with the exact changes, has been implemented in the release of PAM. You will also find things such as strat time, allowing players to choose their weapons at the start of the round and decide on a tactic (rather than having to frantically do it once the round has finished and risk shooting your teammate at the start while you are clicking on the perks), Ready Up mode, making it a lot easier to get the game going, meaning you do not need to restart and rely on everyone choosing the right side, as well as the Half Time function, meaning again you don’t have to restart after one half, resetting all the scores. Scorp over at Clanbase has reviewed Unreal Tournament 3 with extra focus on competition worthiness. The review covers all gametypes, plus multiplayer, single player and more. It’s a recommended read, especially for players thinking about getting into the competitive side of the game. Here’s a snippet;

Deathmatch is what we are all used to, both Duel and Team Deathmatch have been well developed, the weapons seem to have been balanced however I still expect the Shock Rifle, Rocket Launcher and Flak cannon to be among the weapons of choice but surprisingly there is one noticeable weapon missing from the Unreal Tournament 3 armory, the Lightening Gun. The maps in Deathmatch have been well designed and there are fourteen maps included with the retail version of the game, including the demo maps DM-HeatRay and DM-ShangriLa, we also see the return of an old classic map from Unreal Tournament, which was also remade for Unreal Tournament 2004, the legendary DM-Deck.

GGL Wire’s Jonathan Wood tracked down Syanide of =OLD= Renowned Fraggerz to discuss his ClanBase experience and thoughts about Unreal Tournament 3. =OLD= is currently leading a ClanBase UT3 ladder that hasn’t seen much activity, but hope to see it ramp up in the future.

GGL Wire: Where did your clan name and nick come from?

Syanide: The team name stemed from when we initially set =OLD= up. It was a clan for over 30 year olds. And in the gaming world you could say we were =OLD=.

That was about 5 years back..but since then we did relax the rules and have guys now from 20+.

On my nick.. initally I wanted a nick that sounded a bit mean…tried a few but didnt like them, then settled on cyanide but wanted something slightly different so it becoame syanide. That was in UT1.

GGL Wire: So far, what do you think of UT3’s competitive prospects?

Syanide: Pretty good.. it seems to have gone back more to the roots of UT1. Shame they seem to have removed the double dodge from the game, though. Probably because of the console games, I reckon.

We’re looking forward to the cups. Mainly TDM but have a few interested in duel and CTF as well. Continued…

With the recent European release of Unreal Tournament III, ClanBase has launched nine ladders supporting the game.

Gametypes include 1v1 deathmatch, team deathmatch, instagib, capture the flag, and vehicle CTF. While CB ladders are generally populated with European teams, those on other continents are welcome as well as long as they can meet match times.

Head to the ClanBase UT3 ladder page to get started.

DuRus has just completed ClanBase’s official review of Call of Duty 4 (PC), and there’s good news! The game is now ClanBase certified, meaning that it’s among the best of the best that you can get.

This review deals primarily with the multiplayer portion of the game, and rightly so, since ClanBase is a multiplayer gaming community.
