Liberty City is a pretty big place. It’s easy to get lost while marveling at the beautiful scenery. That is why Google Maps and IGN have teamed up to make an interactive map of Liberty City.

The map allows users to choose what is shown, from mission markers to clothing stores. This is an invaluable resource when running from the cops or figuring out where to take your date. The map can be found here.

Saint’s Row 200Yesterday it was announced that Saints Row 2 will hit the streets on Aug 26. Arriving on both PS3 and Xbox 360, the game picks up a few years after the first Saints Row ended.

Saints Row 2 will feature online co-op through the entire single-player campaign and an open world competitive multiplayer mode. It will also feature new vehicles, new locations and more options when it comes to player customization.

I was a huge fan of the first Saints Row, and the second one sounds pretty awesome. The real question is, How will it fare against Grand Theft Auto 4? I know that I will make room for both in my game budget.

I went to the GamePolitics web site to catch up on Jack Thompson’s disbarment, and found the front page loaded with newsworthy and alarming stories. Rather than repost everything, here’s a list:

  • Hillary Clinton promises to support games censorship legislation
  • Wisconsin to tax videogames and consoles to fund juvenile delinquency programs
  • Second Life a training ground for terrorists
  • Teens kill 7-year-old girl while supposedly reenacting Mortal Combat
  • IGN’s Nintendo editor is married to a Nintendo PR executive

Hey little lady… you gonna finish that Twinkie? Uh huh huh.

From the Los Angeles Times:

One of this year’s hottest video games got hotter last weekend, when highway bandits near the City of Industry hijacked a truck carrying more than 1,000 copies of “Rock Band” and the electronic musical instruments that accompany it, authorities said Wednesday.

The robbers kidnapped the truck driver and held him at gunpoint while they unloaded the cargo. In addition to the game disc, “Rock Band” features a drum set, a guitar and a microphone so players can pretend to be performers.

“We’re glad no one got hurt,” said Bryce Baer, a spokesman for Electronic Arts Inc., the game’s Redwood City, Calif.-based publisher. “We hope these guys end up forming a rock band in jail.”

The value of the lost games is approximately $170,000. Police believe it was an inside job.

The suspects, two Latino men in their late 20s driving a black truck, could face life sentences for kidnapping, because they held the driver against his will.

Child in prison costumePolice in Florida blame a rash of videogame thefts on the young victims’ friends.

[Lauderhill police Lt. Mike Cochran] said the crooks are often kids who come over to play the games with their friends.

“They’ll either come back and break into your home or they’ll leave a door unlocked and come back into your home, and then the games disappear,” said Cochran.

Police encourage parents to know all of the children who come in and out of the house. Find out where they live and who their parents are. Before a group of children leaves the home, check and make sure every item is accounted for. Finally, check to make sure every door and window of the home is locked after they come over. Cars.Everyone knows how hard it is to return an opened videogame. You’ll have an easier time getting a refund for used underwear. But don’t follow the example of a northern California man, who posed as a police officer to return a copy of Cars.

Steven Scott Sather, 46 of Turlock, a tiny town south of Modesto, couldn’t get the local Target store to take back a copy of the movie tie-in game which wouldn’t run properly. So he pulled out his badge — he was a code enforcement officer for the county Department of Environmental Resources — and pretended to be a police officer. Continued…
