After a tumultuous first round of bracket play in the Digital Games, things are falling into place for the second round.

In Counter-Strike: 1.6 Europe, first-seeded emulate look to drop #16 peXg.young.cs, while #2 neP face off against #15 LowLandLions.cs. emulate are already world champions in a different tournament, so it should come as no surprise that they are heavily favored to have their way with this bracket. We will see, however, if a lower seed can upset them.

The North American Call of Duty 4 PS3  bracket sees #1 ONEARMYONELIFE matched against DeathB4Dishonor, while #2 Fear is Better Than Respect will fight#15 Hippo Attack force. I haven’t run into any idle speculation about who is best in this segment of the competition, so the field seems open to all! Continued…

The deadline for the first round of the Digital Games Regional Final Brackets have been extended to Saturday, August 9, to give players/teams who have not played a bit more time.

We won’t be able to extend the brackets again, so if you do not play your match by Saturday you will be forfeited out of the competition.

If you have played a first round match, please re-report the results, as some of the results were erased in the process of extending the round.

With the conclusion of the Digital Games ladders, we’ve switched the tournament over to a bracket format for the Regional Finals.

The regional brackets pit national medalists against one another in a fight to the death to determine who is best in the region. In addition, if you are a participant in the Digital Games brackets and want to be featured in a new video show GGL is developing, please save your demos and replays (where applicable)!

GGL rules stipulate that all replays should be saved for dispute purposes regardless, but there could be some very interesting coverage opportunities for you and your team in the future, so please save replays!

Good luck to all competitors!

With the end of the Digital Games ladders, GGL is proud to announce the national medalists for all games. These medalists will eventually be preserved on a DG medals page, but here’s the list for your perusal.

Visit the Digital Games news post to see a long-format list of the medalists.

Congrats to all the winners and we’ll see you in the bracket portion of the tournament!

PC World’s Broadband Innovation series just featured the Digital Games, with some backstory on Patrick “Pat Dark” O’Day, who is participating in the tournament.

While the article goes to some length to describe O’Day’s lack of athleticism (as if it matters when it comes to computer games), it ends on a fairly positive tone.

Check out the article at PC World.

It’s often difficult to get match replays due to the speed of ladder play, so sometimes it’s best to just have a quick list breaking down the leaders of the prominent Digital Games ladders.

These records can change at any time, so let’s get to it! The format goes: Name / Points / Record.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath

North America: KiFireLedius / 1500 / 5-1 / 5W
Europe: LeOwNzAll / 1775 / 9-0 / 9W

StarCraft: Brood War

North America: BroL1 / 1675 / 7-0 / 7W
Europe: localhost9 / 1780 / 7-2 / 6W Continued…

The last few days of Digital Games ladder play has been marked by some turnover on the South American Call of Duty 4 ladder, with Ready to Kill Clan taking over the top spot from O MAR ABRIU VEI! and Canibais. This is all despite the fact that R2KC hold a losing record–it just goes to show that activity pays off in ladder play, wins and losses aside.

On the European Command & Conquer 3 ladder, Technique has extended his win streak in first place, while knolz and spug3t bring up 2nd and 3rd, respectively. KiFireLedius still holds the lead on the North American C&C3 ladder.

Also, this is becoming old hat by now, but Paladyn continues to decimate the competition on the European Warcraft III scene. He now holds a 43-5 record, with no apparent intention to stop anytime soon. Ditto for North American Trackmania Nations Forever leader G2_Wolf, who stands at 8-0.

Last, but certainly not least, European FIFA stalwart dragua is clinging to a narrow points lead over icantplaygood; this drama will certainly play out in the weeks to come.

Registration is still open for the DG ladders. Sign up to represent your country against some of the best competitors in the world, across thirteen different titles.

Heated competition continues on the Digital Games ladders, but the leaders are beginning to solidify their positions on some games and regions.

Paladyn has a stranglehold on the on the European Warcraft III front, as usual, with a 39-5 record and 4940 points. He’s 780 points ahead of Russian dmZfederal, and 940 ahead of iesbly4eg. FuRY[SWE], however, is climbing with a 25-5 record and 6W streak. He’s currently in 4th place.

In 6th, another star is rising. His name is PGS.LiiLD.C, and if you’re a follower of the WC3 scene, you know he’s a force to be reckoned with…

Meanwhile, on the Trackmania Nations Forever North American ladder, G2_Wolf has held onto his undefeated record. He did not, in fact, get to play Iceman yesterday. Wolf expressed some disappointment as he’d rather “get 40 points for racing and losing instead of 60 for a forfeit win.” This hardened competitor will be looking forward to the challenges posed by CoryEarly and wilameta. Players and teams are warming up to the ladder format for the Digital Games, and several previously-inactive ladders are beginning to show signs of life.

In Counter-Strike 1.6, French team ONE4ALL sports a 1-1 record and 1115 points on the European ladder, while UK’s neP hold second, and Portugal’s mK! has a handle on third.

The Call of Duty 4  South American ladder is Brazilian-dominated, and O MAR ABRIU VEI ! has tied Canibais for first place with 1200 points and a 2-0 record. This motion bumped Ready to Kill Clan down into third.

KiFireLedius, meanwhile, has taken over the Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath ladder with wins over CoDster and JuDgEpowr, but a loss to KhuFu_OwNz. Khufu is now inactive, possibly due to being demoralized after flaming GGL’s ladder system over the course of several days. The European Kane’s Wrath ladder is actually faring a little better, as flying Dutchman Technique sports a 2-1 record and 1240 points, but a 1L streak. Can knolz take advantage? We’ll find out in the coming days. Continued…

Ladder play for the Digital Games runs until July 27, and registration is open for the duration of the ladders. Register to begin your journey in the Digital Games.

The first couple of days of the 2008 Digital Games ladders are complete, and RTS gamers are leading the charge. While activity has been slow on many of the titles requiring more coordination, Digital Games RTS titles are unique in that finding a server is not necessary (or alternatively, servers like Blizzard’s Battle.net and EA’s online service are always up).

Additionally, matches can be completed in a relatively short amount of time. This ease of use is borne out in the number of matches played in Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne and StarCraft.

Currently, the Russian NaviGraF sits atop the European WC3 ladder with a 13-12 record, 2560 points, and a 1 game winning streak. His time on the top may be short lived, as the well-known Polish player Paladyn is in 2nd place with a 13-2 record and 2380 points.DreamS.SalaN (2020, 9-4, 3W) has a tenuous grip on 3rd place.

Right behind him is 4th place tp_uSports-aVa (1960, 8-5, 1L). The top 20 spots on the ladder are dominated by Russian and Ukrainian players. We’ll find out if any of the other European region countries represent themselves this well as time goes on.

Additionally, we’re seeing moderate activity on the StarCraft and Command & Conquer 3 ladders.

North American StarCraft stalwart Artosis is leading his region with a 4-1 record, including wins over Machine[Media], TeamLiquid (the entire TeamLiquid community? haha), GoShox, and goodbody. Keep up the great work!

We’re only two days into ladder play, and registration is open for the duration of the ladders. Ladder play ends June 27, so there’s still plenty of time to particpate. You will need to be a GGL member to participate in this competition. Register to begin.

As of today, June 11, ladder play is underway in the Digital Games Ladder Qualifiers.

StarCraft owner Artosis has gotten off to a good start by beating Machine[Media] in his debut match. Several other StarCraft challengers are waiting to get started on their micro and macro domination as well.

You will need to create a GGL account to participate in the Digital Games program, which is run as part of the Our Olympic Organizing Committee’s welcome events hosted by the China Government. We feature 13 different games across 6 categories. Register now to begin your gaming supremacy.
