More details surface on Far Cry 2 DLC

Last Friday I wrote up a post summarizing Ubisofts announcement of Far Cry 2 DLC. In that post I made a prediction as to how much the DLC would cost. Lo and behold I was right. “The Fortune’s Pack” will cost you 800 Microsoft Points ($10), and is expected to arrive sometime in early December. Unfortunately for PC gamers, there has been no word as to if the DLC will appear for you guys.

Just in case you forgot, the pack will include:

New guns on the horizon for Far Cry 2

Not satisfied by the amount of firepower in Far Cry 2? Well you guns nuts can rest easy. Ubisoft announced today they it will be releasing a batch of downloadable content for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers. Dubbed “The Fortune’s Pack,” this DLC will add three new weapons, two new vehicles, and four multiplayer maps. From the screen shots that Ubisoft has released, I can tell you that one of those weapons is a crossbow.

In the announcement, Ubisoft made no mention of price or release date. With all this new content, I would expect it to cost around $10, but that is just my speculation.

REVIEW: Far Cry 2 (Xbox 360)

Far-Cry-2-1422.jpg It was with little pomp and circumstance that a copy of Far Cry 2 for Xbox 360 made its way to my desk here in the office. One minute, I was wondering why my existence was meaningless, and the next, I had my grubby mitts on Ubisoft’s latest purported masterpiece.

Far Cry 2 is Far Cry in name only; it’s not a direct sequel to the original, and for good reason. After gamers complained ceaselessly about the mutated beasts known as Trigens in Far Cry, Ubisoft heard the call. Instead of the setting being a thinly-veiled Island of Dr Moreau ripoff, Far Cry 2 is set somewhere in Africa.

The first 15 minutes

You are a mercenary inserted into the countryside of Leboa-Sako to assassinate a notorious arms dealer known as The Jackal, who is supplying both warring factions in the area. This storyline seems tenuous at best, and only vaguely disguises what Far Cry 2 really is: Grand Theft Auto in Africa–Grand Theft Africa if you will–which is not necessarily a bad thing…

Before we go any further, let me just say that the 15 minute intro sequence in which you’re driven to the city of Pala by an African guy whose name I forgot, while having no control, could be the most annoying thing ever conceived. Your character promptly suffers a malaria attack and passes out, only to be confronted by The Jackal himself. He taunts you and leaves, and the city comes under attack. After a couple of minutes, a car exploded in front of me and I passed out again and found myself rescued by one of my Buddies. Then I finally got a chance to play the game.
