Today on Epileptic Gaming:

We mourn the loss of Robert Summa, who is missing in action at Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. Last we heard, he was involved in a gang war between three rival sets. Here are the talking points and previews of the day, but not in this particular order:

1) Army of Two special preview
2) Rainbow Six Vegas 2 special preview
3) Up All Night: Burnout Paradise teaser (show release today at upallnight.ggl.com)
4) We’ll attempt to establish radio contact with Summa in San Francisco, probably in the midst of a firefight between five rival gangs.
5) Discussion: Are PC games really dead? We hear from one of the guys working on Spore, who makes a convincing argument…but does it hold water?

Today at GDC, Microsoft’s XNA team announced plans to allow user uploads of games to Xbox LIVE, effectively creating a “YouTube” for games. However, you will have to be an XNA Creator’s Club member, which costs $49.99 for four months or $99 for a yearly subscription.

While the gears are turning to make it happen, the full launch isn’t scheduled until the holiday season of this year. Also, achievements and leaderboards won’t be available for community-released games.

Despite these caveats, the announcement is sending ripples through the gaming community. A revenue sharing model is in the works, as well as the ability to release your games for free, and seven community-developed games have been released as a time-limited preview. Check these titles out on Xbox LIVE–they’ll only be playable for a short while.

Soon your favorite next-gen console will be Crying. Get it? CryEngine? Cry? I’m here all day.

Crytek has announced that the technology behind Crysis will debut on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at the 2008 Game Developers Conference.

They’ll also show the public how the engine can be run on a $600 PC. My guess is it will run incredibly badly, but it’s a public demonstration, so who knows? Maybe they can rip all of the textures out of the game so we can run around in a gouraud-shaded environment with our supersuits.

The mind boggles.
