GGL Wire has managed to talk to two people that have been making money playing the Unreal Tournament franchise for years about their impressions of UT3. The victims were two German gamers from Mousesports - Ulrich “daddy” Scheller and Klaus “frag^m” Wiedemann, participants or even winners of competitions like the CPL and ESWC and the ClanBase EuropCup.
Here’s what they had to say:

At Games Convention 2007 in Leipzig, two very anticipated titles were shown. Team Fortress 2 and Unreal Tournament 3 - which of those titles will be the future of esports? I have played both games but only loved one. And it was not UT3.
The following piece cannot be the ultimate judgment of UT3 - I did not get as much playtime as I would have wished, I played with and against random people. Despite this, the following will hopefully give you a decent impression of what to expect of the game, at least as far as competition goes.
The main difference between Unreal Tournament 3 and Team Fortress 2 is that UT3 seems like it was designed to be fun for people with no talent and TF2 was designed to be fun. (I will write about TF2 later, in the interim go watch our preview.) Epic’s flagship for UT3 is Warfare, a mode similar to Onslaught. Continued…
While at Games Convention 2007, we have sat down with Blizzard, the developers of StarCraft 2, to talk about their upcoming RTS game. The single player campaign as well as multiplayer balancing are discussed. Take a look:
GGL Wire has had some 1on1 time with Valve for a presentation of Team Fortress 2 at Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. For all the ignorant bastards among you, TF2 is part of the Half Life 2: Orange Box package and is looking to be one of the most promising esports titles shown at GC.
It features objective, team-based gameplay with nine different player classes and is sure as hell very fun to play. Take a look at what the game is about:
Every Tuesday, there’s a new episode of the GGL LANtics, but today we are releasing a special one from Games Convention 2007. If you’ve ever watched an episode of Epileptic Gaming, then you know who the World Famous Robert Summa is. We went to the show with the sole purpose of finding out just how widespread Summa’s fame is. Let the video tell you everything.

The happiest man of the weekend, at least among competitive gamers, was Filip “NEO” Kubski. The Polish player was given the Counter-Strike Player of the Year award, the eSports Player of the Year award and his PGS Gaming received the Team of the Year award. He topped that by winning the European Nations Cup with team Poland.
GGL Wire’s Michal “Carmac” Blicharz has caught NEO after the ENC decoration and sat down with the player for a chat about the awards, Counter-Strike and Games Convention.
At Games Convention in Leipzig, Wire has managed to get a good look at what was supposed to be an expansion for PainKiller and ended up a standalone game - PainKiller: Overdose. We’ve talked about it, took some gameplay footage and even played it. Find out if you are one of the game’s fans:
Last Saturday, the eSports Awards were handed out to players, teams and journalists during a live show at Games Convention. We have written about who won but have you seen the smiles? Have you seen the tears in those people’s eyes? Have had the chance to notice how nervous Fatal1ty was giving his memorable speech? Have a look if you are interested.
Last weekend had a bountiful amount of esports action with ESL’s European Nations Cup and NGL One finals at Games Convention in Leipzig and the World Series of Video Games in Toronto. Well over $150,000 was given out in cash prizes.
NGL ONE
NGL One has had two LAN finals for their Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft 3 leagues with four teams in a double elimination bracket in each of those. For CS 1.6, the Swedish team Fnatic won in a competition with Team NoA, Mousesports and SK Gaming.
Fnatic went through the bracket beating SK in the semi final (2-0) and Mousesports in the UB final (2-1). SK Gaming came back to the grand final from the lower bracket after beating NoA and Mouz, 2-1 each. Fnatic was the best lineup of the tournament and solidified their position as one of the most consistent teams this year, next to Made in Brazil and PGS Gaming. Continued…
We have laid our eyes on Crysis, probably the most beautiful FPS game presented at Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, and we will post about our impressions of the game later this week. In the meantime, a community manager from EA was kind enough to give us a video interview after the game’s presentation. Here it is:
Unreal Tournament 3 was playable at Games Convention 2007 and Mark Rein, the vice-president of Epic, was there to do presentations of the game. Things got amusingly wrong in the presentation we recorded.
The flagship mode for UT3 will be Warfare - very similar in general to Onslaught from UT2004. It’s going to be vehicles meets objectives, meets CTF. This is what the public got to play in Leipzig and this is what Epic was showing off for GIGA2 television.
We were there, we played the game (and will bring you a write-up on it tomorrow), but for now the video will have to be enough:
GGL Wire sat down with Ubisoft to talk about their FPS game Far Cry 2, one of the more interesting games we have seen at Games Convention in Leipzig. Far Cry 2 is certainly the most beautiful one - and yes, we have seen Crysis too. Here is the interview (a write-up on the game will come too, eventually):
