Yesterday I posted some info on the Fable II Pub Games. Well today Lionhead Studios has announced the content of the Limited Collector’s Edition of Fable II. For $80, you will get a Hobbe figure, a making of documentary, a trial Xbox Live account, the three Xbox Live Arcade Pub Games, and “addition in-game content”.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra cash? Personally, I think not, but then again I’m not a huge fan of the Fable series. Hopefully this new one will pull me in and make me a fanboy.

A while ago I posted a news item about the Fable II mini games that would be available on Xbox Live. You know, the ones that let you earn in-game gold before the game even comes out.
Well, it was announced today that the Fable II Pub Games, which include “Keystone,” a combination of Craps and Roulette, “Spinnerbox,” an updated take on slot machines, and “Fortune’s Tower,” a “press your luck” style of game, will be free if you preorder the game at participating retailers. If you don’t feel like forking over the cash now, you can always buy them on Xbox Live Marketplace next month for 800 Microsoft Points ($10.00). Either way, sounds like fun.

The other night at Valve’s GDC party, they made a surprising announcement: The ending song from Portal, “Still Alive,” will be available to play in Rock Band.
Jonathan Coulton, writer of the song, said: “That is when we jumped on-stage and pulled out our Rock Band equipment piece by piece…When they got to the song list they scrolled through an almost infinite amount of DLC until eventually they stopped on one- ‘Still Alive’ by GLaDOS.”
Unfortunately there are no details as to how much it will cost or when the song will be released. Regardless, I still think that this was a triumph.

Kam-Ra had a freak accident, but he’s alright! The GGL has partnered with the Olympics to host the Digital Games! American Idol sucked last week! HD DVD is dead, and djWheat told you it would happen. Do developers talk trash about other developers? What do the hosts think the maximum player limit in an FPS is? We discuss the Microsoft Keynote from GDC 2008. Gears of War 2 is announced and gets a release date! Peter Molyneux thinks there has never been a fully co-op RPG, idiot. We take a look at a video from Army of 2. Every host has their favorite games, what is Cami’s? World Famous calls us live from GDC 2008!
At GDC it was announced that Fable 2 will feature some pretty interesting game innovations, provided Peter Molyneux can deliver.
First off, the game will feature co-op play, in the style of Crackdown. If you join someone else’s game, any items or experience your character gets will stay with your character.
Another cool feature is that players won’t get money from quests. The only way to get money in the Fable world will be by doing work or gambling. This is why the folks over at Lionhead will release a Xbox Live Arcade game that will contain a few gambling mini games. No word on the cost (if any) of the XBLA game. Any cash you get from these will transfer over to your character.
These features may seem a little gimmicky, but hey, they got me interested…now it’s time to, you know, actually make sure they end up in the final product.

Today on Epileptic Gaming:
We mourn the loss of Robert Summa, who is missing in action at Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. Last we heard, he was involved in a gang war between three rival sets. Here are the talking points and previews of the day, but not in this particular order:
1) Army of Two special preview
2) Rainbow Six Vegas 2 special preview
3) Up All Night: Burnout Paradise teaser (show release today at upallnight.ggl.com)
4) We’ll attempt to establish radio contact with Summa in San Francisco, probably in the midst of a firefight between five rival gangs.
5) Discussion: Are PC games really dead? We hear from one of the guys working on Spore, who makes a convincing argument…but does it hold water?

Today at GDC, Microsoft’s XNA team announced plans to allow user uploads of games to Xbox LIVE, effectively creating a “YouTube” for games. However, you will have to be an XNA Creator’s Club member, which costs $49.99 for four months or $99 for a yearly subscription.
While the gears are turning to make it happen, the full launch isn’t scheduled until the holiday season of this year. Also, achievements and leaderboards won’t be available for community-released games.
Despite these caveats, the announcement is sending ripples through the gaming community. A revenue sharing model is in the works, as well as the ability to release your games for free, and seven community-developed games have been released as a time-limited preview. Check these titles out on Xbox LIVE–they’ll only be playable for a short while.

Soon your favorite next-gen console will be Crying. Get it? CryEngine? Cry? I’m here all day.
Crytek has announced that the technology behind Crysis will debut on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 at the 2008 Game Developers Conference.
They’ll also show the public how the engine can be run on a $600 PC. My guess is it will run incredibly badly, but it’s a public demonstration, so who knows? Maybe they can rip all of the textures out of the game so we can run around in a gouraud-shaded environment with our supersuits.
The mind boggles.
