Much like how Xbox 360 owners got a free Halo song for Guitar Hero 3, Sony announced today that on June 5 they will release a free God of War song. Unfortunately there’s no word as to what the song is, but who cares it’s free.

Now if only they added Kratos as a playable character, activate his starpower and watch a T rated game turn M.

After much input from the community and game experts, WCG has unveiled the lineup for 2008. Some new faces in the lineup, while the classics sit down for another round of competition.

Warcraft III
Starcraft
Counter-Strike
(version not specified, 1.6 perhaps?)
FIFA 08
Need for Speed
Command and Conquer 3
Age of Empires 3
Carom3D
Red Stone
Project Gotham Racing
Asphalt 3
Halo 3
Guitar Hero 3
Virtua Fighter 5

Quite an interesting selection of games this time. WCG does not include Dead or Alive 4, currently used by the CGS as one of its staple games. The Guitar Hero 3 competition could be pretty intense too. Overall, the game pool looks heavier towards racing games.

Just as a brief heads up: the free Dropkick Murphys St. Patty’s day Guitar Hero 3 DLC pack is now available for download. I suggest you all pick it up on XBL and PSN. You never know how long it will stay free.

Week after week I post news items about upcoming Rock Band downloadable songs. Some of my friends have brought it to my attention that I never post about Guitar Hero 3 DLC.

It’s not that I’m against GH3, it’s just that Rock Band DLC comes out like clock work. Today will be a first for me; I’ll write about GH3 DLC.

There is a new GH3 pack now available on both Xbox Live Marketplace consisting of three classic rock songs. The pack will cost you 500 Microsoft Points ($6.25). The songs are:”Any Way You Want It” by Journey, “Jukebox Hero” by Foreigner, and “Peace of Mind” by Boston.

The best part is that these songs are master tracks, meaning sticklers, like myself, can’t complain about crappy cover vocals and what not. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to rock out to some powerful licks courtesy of Boston.

While hosting the Guitar Hero 3 tournament here at DigitalLife, the GGL Wire crew was able to test out the Battle Mode in a public exhibition with random players pulled from the crowd. The result? Some of the best Guitar Hero competition you can get. A new feature to the Guitar Hero series, Battle Mode adds the most thought-out use of strategy than any other mode currently found in not only Guitar Hero games of the past, but also the next iteration that hits store shelves on Oct. 28 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

Easily one of the biggest titles on the show floor here at DigitalLife, the Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock demo proves once again why the game that more or less started it all still rocks … and hard. With much-needed improvements like master track usage, boss battles, and other co-op and multiplayer goodies, Guitar Hero 3 is exactly the kind of offering needed to compete with the anticipated rival from EA, Rock Band. Finally getting a chance to play the game before its release, only now can I really see that it’s still Guitar Hero but with much more.

The PS2 and Wii versions are $90 according to the RedOctane store and the PS3 and 360 ones will set you back a cool $100.
