5. Cheating in EVE Online

EVE Online

Within the world of EVE Online, it’s perfectly acceptable to lie, cheat and steal. So why cheat in the game itself? Continued…

Wacky JackyToday, controversial videogame censorship advocate Jack Thompson appears in U.S. District Court to defend against allegations of unethical behavior made by the Florida Bar Association.

If Judge Adalberto Jordan rules against Thompson, the Florida lawyer could be disbarred.

Last week judge Jordan dismissed Thompson’s suit against the Florida Bar and Judge Dava Tunis, the referee appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to preside over the case. Thompson also attempted to subpoena several of his critics in the media, including the proprietors of GamePolitics and National Gay News. The he tried to subpeona President George W. Bush. Thompson also sent gay porn to the judge in the case. No, really. Continued…

Best Buy sucks.First Best Buy suffers through the porn-stealing scandal, and now this: censorship advocate Jack Thompson is suing the retail chain for allegedly selling M-rated games to minors.

Thompson claims Best Buy is in violation of Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

Best Buy requires a credit card to purchase an M-rated game, a common practice meant to prevent minors from purchasing such games without parental involvement.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board is also included in the suit: Continued…

Norm Kent of the National Gay News Web site has responded to news of videogame censorship activist Jack Thompson’s gay porn-related problems. As we reported yesterday, Jack Thompson is trying to demonstrate that the Florida Bar Association, which is going after Thompson for professional misconduct, disseminates gay porn to children. Yes, pro-censorship lawyer and media personality Jack Thompson, a self-described fundamentalist Christian, is in danger of being reprimanded for distributing gay porn.

GamePolitics.com has been covering Wacky Jacky’s recent legal troubles, involving charges of professional misconduct filed by the Florida Bar Association. As reported previously, Thompson is counter-suing both the Bar and the judge in his own case.

That judge, Adalberto Jordan, is now pissed because Thompson attached unredacted images from gay porn sites in an electronically-filed motion. Continued…

I’m not saying Jack Thompson is crazy. That would be libelous. I’m saying he *acts* like a crazy person. Draw your own conclusions.Embattled videogame censorship advocate Jack Thompson is accusing Rockstar game of threatening his life in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV.

Thompson sent a copy of a letter to Take Two’s Strauss Zelnick to a Florida federal court:

I have this morning read with interest an article on page 80 and 81 of the September 2007 issue of Game Informer magazine which was generated when, according to its author, Rockstar Games “stopped by the Game Informer offices for an impromptu hour-long gameplay session with the Xbox 360 version of the game.”

The showcasing play of the game to Game Informer revealed that the first killing mission of the “hero” of the game, Niko, is to kill a certain lawyer. When Niko comes into this lawyer’s office, having used subterfuge to do so, Niko pulls a gun on the lawyer who says, “that the firm supports the second amendment and that ‘Guns don’t kill people. Video games do.’” Continued…

Hello, Clarice.Gamers like to speculate on the mental stability of censorship advocate Jack Thompson; not necessarily because he believes videogames turn otherwise God-fearing young Christians into maniacal black-trenchcoated murderers, but because of his other inexplicable behavior. He tried to “out” Janet Reno, and accused her of “assault” when she touched his shoulder; sued a radio station for $200,000 just for mentioning his name; sued videogame makers for creating a “defective” product because Thompson didn’t like the content (the suit was thrown out); tried to get the police to arrest the Penny Arcade guys because they made a charitable donation in his name; declared his own bar association “unconstitutional”; and even tried to insert himself in the Anna Nicole Smith case.

Maybe that’s why the Florida Supreme Court ordered him to undergo a mental examination. Continued…

Jack Thompson wants to bite your head off.

It’s my contention that gamers love Jack Thompson. No, seriously.

If Thompson were an effective and eloquent censorship advocate, then he would elicit only the mild disdain we reserve for the Tipper Gores and Hilary Clintons (whose efforts may quietly be doing the most to harm videogames). But it’s Thompson’s eccentricities — his rabid dogmatism, inexplicable ineptitude, and bizarre behavior — that bring out in gamers the kind of virulent hatred that masks true love. Like that girl in grade school you punched in the nose because you liked her. Continued…

Yesterday, the always outspoken and respected videogame thinker Will Wheaton delivered an epic keynote speech — so epic that this was his first words: “My name is Wil Wheaton and Jack Thompson can suck my balls.” Since you may have not been here to hear it, we’ve got the full audio version of it right here. I encourage you to give it a healthy listen. Enjoy!

Stephen BaldwinOstensibly, our troops are in Iraq to promote Democracy, stabilize the region, and depending on to whom you listen, lower the price of crude oil. But they’re not there to kill Muslims just because they’re Muslim.

Yet the Pentagon is allowing a right-wing Christian evangelical “entertainment troupe” to distribute copies of Left Behind: Eternal Forces to U.S. troops in Iraq. Continued…
