Brain Age creator Ryuta Kawashima turned down almost $22 million (¥2.4 billion) in royalties from the hit Nintendo DS title based on his best-selling book.

Dr. Kawashima is a respected Japanese neuroscientist, and the author of Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain. The game is based upon the book, and features Kawashima as a character.

Not a single yen has gone in my pocket. Everyone in my family is mad at me but I tell them that if they want money, go out and earn it.

In fact, Kawashima has directed some of the royalty money (¥700 million) to Tohoku University for new laboratories.

Konami will release Contra Dual Spirits for Nintendo DS on March 13. The price will be 5,229 Yen.

Contra Dual Spirits is the newest title of Contra series — the first of which was released in 1987. Contra Dual Spirits inherited the traditional 2D action game system from previous Contra series. This title is a port of the American-developed Contra 4.

The new title fully uses the advantage of dual display that Nintendo DS has, and there will be impacting stages and bosses. A new feature (familiar to North American players) called “Grappling Hook” enables to move character on both displays. Also, players are able to use wireless LAN connectivity to play cooperatively.

For this title, a 20th memorial of original Contra privilege is included which has 40 challenge stages. In addition, by playing challenging stages, players can unlock privilege items. The privilege content includes interviews of Contra and Super C, artwork and more.
