During Konami’s E3 press conference yesterday, they announced the first expansion pack for Metal Gear Online. The “Gene” pack will feature a new gameplay mode called “survival”, three new maps, a reward shop and two new characters. At the award shop, gamers can buy new gear for their characters by spending points earned in survival mode. The best news is the expansion is out today. That’s right folk, stop reading this and start downloading.

As most of you know, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots hits stores this Thursday. Also most of you know that GameStop doesn’t let big games like this go by without a midnight launch. GameStop announced that over 1,500 of this locations will be hosting a special MGS4 midnight launch/event.

“What makes it so special?” you ask. To get gamers ready for the title and to help pass the two hour wait, GameStop will be hosting trivia contests, a Big Boss costume contest and special gameplay previews.

Sounds like a blast. Just be sure to check the list and see if your local GameStop is hosting the event.

This is just a reminder, that today the Metal Gear Online beta is now live. If you have a PS3 and a net connection, why are you still reading this? Go download the final patch, create a character and get to gaming.



Thinking about picking up the slick Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition? Well if so, I hope you don’t have a problem with GameStop, because they are the only store in North America selling them. If you preordered MGS4 LE at another store, expect a notice of cancellation.

If you preorder the game at select stores, you will not only get a copy of the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD, but also a voucher to participate in the Metal Gear Online Beta.

Both the Limited and Standard editions will be arriving on shelves June 12, with the Standard costing $60 and the LE going for $85.

Today Konami detailed the contents of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots limited edition.

The game comes in a collectible metal box and will contain a bonus Blu-ray disk with two “making of” documentaries, four chapters in the Metal Gear graphic novel and the Metal Gear import soundtrack. Also if you pre-order it from GameStop, you can also get an “exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 art book.”

The limited edition will cost you $85. Do you think this is a worth while investment, or just a waste of cash?

One game franchise that my friends always are harping on me to play is the Metal Gear Solid series. For some reason, every iteration just fell under the radar for me. Now I get my chance to experience them in one package.

Konami has confirmed that they are releasing Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear solid 2 (Director’s Cut) and Metal Gear Solid 3 all in one package. Dubbed Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection, the game will appear only on the PlayStation 2 and will retail for $29.99. There has been no release date announced, but I’d put my money on it coming out before Metal Gear solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Now I have a chance to get my friends off my back and get experience what many have told me is one of the best game series around.
