The Witcher is getting an upgrade this May, thankfully, since the year has been fairly slow in terms of RPG releases.
Dubbed The Witcher Enhanced Edition, the new version will feature upgraded character models, and numerous bug fixes including improved loading times (thank god). Also in this package will be a soundtrack, a mod editor, a game guide, and two new adventures. Unfortunately no price has been announced yet.
For those of you who have already bought The Witcher, you will be able to download an update and get all this content for free. This might just motivate me to play through it again.
This mod adds a bit more authenticity to the game by giving you an actual string to strum on instead of the annoying clicky one that seems to curse the stock guitars. Check it:

Hello, readers! My name is Adam Hetrick; I’m a modder who has been brought on to contribute some coverage that will most likely focus on Unreal-based mods. We’ll be getting started with a sweet little driving mod called UnWheel.
This is a doozy. Half Life 2: Wars, an ambitious one-man project to bring RTS-style gameplay to the Source Engine, is now playable, featuring two maps.
It’s a bit rough around the edges and the name needs some work, but HL2: Wars offers some standard RTS concepts set in the HL2 universe. For example, no matter what side you pick (Rebel/Combine), zombies, headcrabs, ant lions and other Xenian fauna act as neutral “creeps,” guarding important items.
Unfortunately, building construction isn’t implemented yet, and there are only two playable maps, but it’s a start. Here are a handful of new screens from the game.
First Strike is a just-released Star Wars mod for DICE’s Battlefield 2142 FPS.
The video claims to be all in-game footage, and as such is pretty damn impressive. The game takes place in the early days of the Galactic Empire, when the Rebel Alliance makes its first strikes against Palpatine.
The beta version of the mod is available here for download. You will need BF 2142 to play.
In what can be considered the most epic of community-driven content creation, long-time game designer Dave Perry has announced that his next MMO project will be left in the development hands of you, the gaming public. According to the press release, Perry and Acclaim will hand over a “total prize package … worth up to $1 million, plus royalties, to the winning development team.”
The closed system of the Xbox 360 is close to being open thanks to a a kernel downgrade by a modder known only as “Robinsod.” This all requires a lot of computer geek wizardry, but the end result is that if these modders continue to push the envelope, we could see Xbox 360s running Linux and homebrew software soon.
It would definitely be a major coup for homebrew developers if the 360 platform is pried open. For one, opening up the 360 system to Linux would allow its use as a as a MythTV box with true DVR functionality — for free — as well as an emulation platform.
The ultimate utility of any potential hacks for the average user is debatable, though. And it’s worth noting that the PlayStation 3 runs Linux out of the box.
