Considering how utterly awful Beat Mania is, I’m always curious as to if videogame makers will every release a decent DJ sim that is akin to what Guitar Hero has done for guitar junkies. While the announcement is light in the way of information, a video trailer and host of screenshots have been released for the PlayPen Studios PC rhythm game Skillz — set for release in 2008. Apparently, users will be able to do things such as upload their own music to mix and scratch, buy music from the in-game music store, or record and share your mixes online.

The GGL area here at DigitalLife is pretty rocking. One of the musical acts we brought on stage was the legendary nerd rapper MC Frontalot. Our own djWHEAT sat down with MC Frontalot and his crew and this was the madness that occurred. Enjoy!

While hosting the Guitar Hero 3 tournament here at DigitalLife, the GGL Wire crew was able to test out the Battle Mode in a public exhibition with random players pulled from the crowd. The result? Some of the best Guitar Hero competition you can get. A new feature to the Guitar Hero series, Battle Mode adds the most thought-out use of strategy than any other mode currently found in not only Guitar Hero games of the past, but also the next iteration that hits store shelves on Oct. 28 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.

halozune.jpgThe point of DigitalLife for tech companies is to show off their new or must-have items. At least, you’d think that would be the point, right? So it’s odd to walk through a fairly good-sized Microsoft booth and see the absence of Microsoft’s Zune music player. At nearly every other convention, even gaming ones, the Zune is always there in some capacity. What happened Microsoft? We can’t even get a Halo-themed Zune on display? As a Zune lover myself, I can only hope the company hasn’t completely lost faith in their own iPod killer. Boooooo!

Easily one of the biggest titles on the show floor here at DigitalLife, the Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock demo proves once again why the game that more or less started it all still rocks … and hard. With much-needed improvements like master track usage, boss battles, and other co-op and multiplayer goodies, Guitar Hero 3 is exactly the kind of offering needed to compete with the anticipated rival from EA, Rock Band. Finally getting a chance to play the game before its release, only now can I really see that it’s still Guitar Hero but with much more.
