After a tumultuous first round of bracket play in the Digital Games, things are falling into place for the second round.

In Counter-Strike: 1.6 Europe, first-seeded emulate look to drop #16 peXg.young.cs, while #2 neP face off against #15 LowLandLions.cs. emulate are already world champions in a different tournament, so it should come as no surprise that they are heavily favored to have their way with this bracket. We will see, however, if a lower seed can upset them.

The North American Call of Duty 4 PS3  bracket sees #1 ONEARMYONELIFE matched against DeathB4Dishonor, while #2 Fear is Better Than Respect will fight#15 Hippo Attack force. I haven’t run into any idle speculation about who is best in this segment of the competition, so the field seems open to all! Continued…

With only two weeks remaining in the ladder phase of the Digital Games, many of the ranks are starting to sort themselves out. However, teams and players can be leapfrogged with ease, so danger could lurk around the corner for our ladder leaders. Let’s check out the current rankings.

On the South American Call of Duty 4 ladder, Ready to Kill Clan maintain their #1 position despite a losing record. In the coming days, however, they will face a strong challenge from brazilianclan. This all-Brazilian ladder may come down to the wire within the next two weeks, as it’s difficult to grind out a lot of matches in a 5v5 format. We’ll keep an eye on it as we move forward.

Command & Conquer 3 stalwart knolz continues his ownage in the European C&C3: Kane’s Wrath competition. He only leads 2nd place LeOwNzall by 40 points, however, so he needs to stay sharp. On the North American front, KiFireLedius holds on to his lead, as well. As an aside, be sure to read KiFire’s blog about how he feels EA isn’t supporting Kane’s Wrath. He wrote it over the July 4th holiday so many of you may have missed it. Continued…

Due to the intricacies of ladder play, dmZfederal (41-18, 5730, 1L) has dethroned Paladyn as the points leader on the Digital Games European Warcraft III: TFT ladder.

Although dmZfederal doesn’t have more wins than Paladyn, who has a 47-6 record, he does have more total games played. Since players get points for playing a match regardless of winning, it’s possible to rise to the top of the heap despite a worse record.

Activity is king in ladder play, and speaking of which, there’s some more interesting news from a game that hasn’t been too active until lately.

While the number of matches in the 2008 Digital Games continues to ratchet up, higher than average activity is beginning to show on the North American NHL 08 360 ladder. Continued…

Of note is the poll that ran several months ago on the GGL site; six of the top eight games from the poll have been selected for the Digital Games program (though I question the polling audience, as DoTA, an incredibly popular game, ranked very low on the poll). Here’s the poll image (follow the jump): Continued…
