It seems like not everybody is pleased with the recently released Guitar Hero 5, namely musician Courtney Love. Love is apparently upset with how Activision used her deceased husband’s, Kurt Cobain, likeness and is “going to sue the shit out of [Activision].”
Love’s main issue is with Cobain’s avatar. Not the way he looks, but the fact that after you unlock it you can use it to play any instrument in any song in the game.
Love said that she “never signed [off] on the avatar,” adding “I think Kurt would despise this game alone let alone this avatar.”
Activision, on the other hand, replied, saying “Courtney supplied us with photos and videos and knew exactly what she wanted Kurt to look like. She picked the wardrobe and hair style, which turned out to be the ‘Teen Spirit’ look, then we went back and forth over changes.”
Hopefully the two parties involved will be able to sort this out peacefully, however unlikely that it. As more development arrive, you can be sure I’ll post them here on The Wire.
This week’s Release Roundup caters to sports fans, in particular football lovers. This is because Madden 10 hits stores Friday, Aug. 14.
Marking the 21st annual installment, Madden 10 comes packed with new features. Football fans will be pleased to see the new “PRO-TAK” system, where new animations change the game by allow up to nine player tackles, the ability to steer tackles, and a more realistic pocket around the QB. Madden 10 also introduces the “Fight for the Fumble” feature, where players will have to pass quicktime events to gain possession of the ball during dog piles. Aside from these new features, Madden 10 also contains a new ratings philosophy, more realistic player momentum, a new injury system, and numerous other improvements.
I hate to keep doing this to you guys, but this week’s Release Roundup continues the tradition of crappy summer releases.
The “big” title this week is G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Based on the upcoming action movie, G.I. Joe offers gamers a chance to play as some of the most beloved toys of all time. Considering these are the only details I could find on the game and that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is being ported to every console under the sun, my guess is that this game is just shovelware. Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong.
Besides G.I. Joe, the other big release this week is the fifth batch of DLC for Fallout 3. Dubbed Mothership Zeta, the final DLC pack has gamers abducted by aliens when exploring a strange radio signal. Little do these elfin extraterrestrials know, the wastelands of D.C. are a lot harder than a then they used to be. Gamers are tasked with sending these probing bastards back to the cosmos. I can’t wait to jack one in the face and yell “Welcome to Earth!”
The games coming out this week are:
Xbox 360
Brave: A Warrior’s Tale
Fallout 3 Downloadable Content: Mothership Zeta (Xbox Live Marketplace)
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (Xbox Live Arcade) Read more »

I got some bad news guys. This week’s Release Roundup brings absolutely nothing worth you time. Alright that may be a little out of hand, but I can guarantee you that every new title this week would fall into the category of shovel ware.
This week’s big release is G-Force, a game based off Disney’s new movie about secret agent guinea pigs. The only cool thing about this game is that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions feature an anaglyph-based stereoscopic 3D mode, and is packaged with two sets of 3D glasses. Other than that it’s pretty forgettable.
This week’s new games are:
Xbox 360
G-Force
Rock Band Country Track Pack
Watchmen: The End is Nigh - The Complete Experience Read more »
This week’s Release Roundup brings gamers back to the old west.
That’s right, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood hits stores this Tuesday. Set during the Civil War, Bound in Blood tells the tale of two brothers who desert the Confederate army to protect their home from encroaching Union forces. This sets off a chain of events that has the brothers running for their lives across America.
Bound in Blood, like any good Western, features gunslingers, outlaws, duels, prison breaks, bank robberies, stagecoach chases and conflicts with Native Americans. According to Techland, they wanted to make the “wildest West ever created.” By the looks of it, they have.
This week’s Release Roundup, while not being chalk full of triple-A titles, still has a few gems worth checking out.
If first-person shooters are you thing, ARMA II hits PCs via Steam. For those of you who don’t know what ARMA II is, it’s a military simulator that focuses heavily on authenticity. In order to make the game feel authentic, Bohemia Interactive Studio utilized the third-generation Real Virtuality engine, which has been in development for the past ten years and is currently used in training simulators by militaries from around the world.
Aside from ARMA II, other games worth checking out include: Overlord II, Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires, and Fight Night Round 4.
This week’s Release Roundup beings up one of the most anticipated games of the summer. Of course I’m talking about Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
The game takes place during Thanksgiving of 1991, two years after Ghostbusters II. Due to a rise in paranormal activity, the four classic characters (Ray, Egon, Peter, and Winston) need a little help, so they hire a fifth man. This is where the player steps in.
If the plot sounds a little suspect, don’t fret. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis (writers/stars of the first two movies) penned the script. Aykroyd has referred to the game as being essentially Ghostbusters 3. If Ramis and Aykroyd taking control of the script isn’t enough for you, you should rest assured that most of the movie’s characters are returning with their original actors voicing them. The only notable two actors that declined to be involved in the gamer are Rick Moranis (Louis Tully) and Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett).
This week’s two big titles might make you think fondly of your childhood. That’s because both games were NES franchises.
Bionic Commando is a direct sequel to the 1988 NES game with the same title. Gamers take control of Spencer, a commando with a bionic arm (go figure). The robotic appendage allows Spencer to swing around environment like Spider-Man. Spencer’s arm also allows him to toss massive debris, such as boulders and cars, at his enemies. Bionic Commando is arrive on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
The other major title this week is Punch-Out!! for the Wii. As with the previous Punch-Out!! titles, players will take control of Little Mac as he works his way up the boxing ladder. Punch-Out!! can be played with just the Wii Remote using the original NES controls, or players can also use the Nunchuk in tandem with the Wii Balance Board for a more interactive experience.
This week’s Release Roundup has something for everyone.
For shooter fans, Killing Floor hits Steam this week. Killing Floor is a co-operative FPS that plays like Left 4 Dead mixed with CoD:WaW’s Nazi Zombies mode. Developed by veteran indie developer Tripwire Interactive (Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45), Killing Floor promises hours of gory fun.
If WWII sims are you thing, you might want to check out Battlestations: Pacific. Developed by Eidos, Pacific expands on Battlestations: Midway by adding new weapons, vehicles, and combat options.
If hack and slash RPGs sound good to you, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel hits consoles this week. Sacred 2 plays like your typical Diablo clone, with players choosing a class, exploring dungeons, and leveling up. I’ve played a little Sacred 2 on PC and I must say, I was impressed. The game may not have the most innovative of game mechanics, but they are implemented well.
Spring marks the start of movie blockbuster season, and with it comes movie cross-over games. The big one arrive this week is X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Gamers will get the chance to play everyone’s favorite indestructible mutant as he fights his way to understanding how he came to be. Origins will feature gameplay similar to God of War and Devil May Cry.
If killing Nazis is more of your thing, Velvet Assassin is also hitting stores. Based on the real life secret agent Violette Szabo, gamers will get the chance to sneak behind German lines and wreak havoc on the Reich.
