PixelJunk Monster Deluxe hits the PSN this Thursday

Today Sony announced that the beloved tower defense title PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe will arrive on the Playstation Network this Thursday. In celebration of this even, Sony has released a new trailer for the game.

What makes this edition so “Deluxe”? Well according to Sony, the game will come will all the original content in PixelJunk Monsters, plus the Encore add-on pack that adds 15 additional levels. There will also be new levels, enemies, and towers exclusive to the PSP.

Sounds great to me. I played the hell out of PixelJunk Monsters on my PS3. Once I get it on my PSP, the long bus rides to work will be much easier.

250px-the_beatles_rock_band_box_artThis week’s Release Roundup gives gamers a chance to become familiar with four boys from Liverpool. Of course I’m talking about The Beatles: Rock Band.

Developed by Harmonix for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii, The Beatles: Rock Band allows gamers to play though The Beatles timeline. Much like the other Rock Band titles, The Beatles will allow gamers to play guitar, bass, drums, and sing. The game comes with 45 songs from twelve of The Beatles albums, spanning 1962-1969. In addition, there are also six non-album singles that have been included. If that doesn’t sound like enough songs, you have to consider that the full albums of Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Rubber Soul will be made available as DLC in the coming months.

Enough about The Beatles. The new games this week are:

Dante’s Inferno raises Hell on Feb. 9

dantes_infernoToday publisher EA announced that Visceral Games’ literature inspired hack & slash title Dante’s Inferno will arrive in the U.S. on Feb. 9, 2010. Europeans are going to have to wait a few days longer, until the Feb. 12, 2010 release.

The announcement was made during EA’s GamesCom 2009 event. According to Senior producer Justin Lambros, the PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP versions will all arrive on the same date.

For those of you who don’t know, Dante’s Inferno puts gamers in the shoes of Dante, a veteran of the Crusades. You are tasked with journeying though the nine circles of Hell to find Dante’s lost love Beatrice and save her soul from the clutches of Lucifer. According to EA, Dante’s Inferno will have similar gameplay to the popular Sony franchise, God of War.

Army of Two: The 40th Day hits Jan. 12

armyoftwothe40thdayToday EA Montreal announced that Army of Two: The 40th Day will be arriving on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP on Jan. 12, 2010.

The developer also announced a pre-order bonus for those who jump aboard The 40th Day early. When the game ships, one of the four multiplayer modes will be lock to everyone except those who pre-ordered the game. The ‘Extraction’ game mode, which according to EA “Pits a team of four players against a series of unique enemy waves as they move from point to point in the ruined city,” will become unlocked after the first month.

While The 40th Day is still on my list of games to check out, I can’t say I agree with this pre-order “bonus.” If I’m paying $60 for a game, I expect to be able to access all parts of it right off the bat. In all reality I expect the online community to react poorly to this news. Hopefully EA will reconsider their stance on the ‘Extraction’ mode.

Release Roundup: August 7

250px-gi_joe_the_rise_of_cobra_coverI hate to keep doing this to you guys, but this week’s Release Roundup continues the tradition of crappy summer releases.

The “big” title this week is G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Based on the upcoming action movie, G.I. Joe offers gamers a chance to play as some of the most beloved toys of all time. Considering these are the only details I could find on the game and that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is being ported to every console under the sun, my guess is that this game is just shovelware. Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong.

Besides G.I. Joe, the other big release this week is the fifth batch of DLC for Fallout 3. Dubbed Mothership Zeta, the final DLC pack has gamers abducted by aliens when exploring a strange radio signal. Little do these elfin extraterrestrials know, the wastelands of D.C. are a lot harder than a then they used to be. Gamers are tasked with sending these probing bastards back to the cosmos. I can’t wait to jack one in the face and yell “Welcome to Earth!”

The games coming out this week are:

Xbox 360

  • Brave: A Warrior’s Tale
  • Fallout 3 Downloadable Content: Mothership Zeta (Xbox Live Marketplace)
  • G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (Xbox Live Arcade) Read more »
