Release Roundup: Sept. 6

250px-the_beatles_rock_band_box_artThis week’s Release Roundup gives gamers a chance to become familiar with four boys from Liverpool. Of course I’m talking about The Beatles: Rock Band.

Developed by Harmonix for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii, The Beatles: Rock Band allows gamers to play though The Beatles timeline. Much like the other Rock Band titles, The Beatles will allow gamers to play guitar, bass, drums, and sing. The game comes with 45 songs from twelve of The Beatles albums, spanning 1962-1969. In addition, there are also six non-album singles that have been included. If that doesn’t sound like enough songs, you have to consider that the full albums of Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Rubber Soul will be made available as DLC in the coming months.

Enough about The Beatles. The new games this week are:

Xbox 360

  • Darkest of Days
  • DiRT 2
  • IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey
  • Mini Ninjas
  • Qubed (Every Extend Extra Extreme, Lumines Live, Rez HD)

Madden 10 also introduces the “Fight for the Fumble” feature, where players will have to pass quicktime events to gain possession of the ball during dog piles. Aside from these new features, Madden 10 also contains a new ratings philosophy, more realistic player momentum, a new injury system, and numerous other improvements.

Release Roundup: July 26

mvc2logoThis weeks Release Roundup brings two classic fighting franchises back to the front of every gamers mind.

First off there is The King of Fighters XII. Featuring twenty two characters, two of which are hidden, KoF XII utilizes its tried and true three vs. three fighting system. The Tactical Shift System, featured in KoF 2003, has been removed. In its place there is a new “Critical Counter” system. This new feature aids players by giving them a few seconds to link extra moves together when you land a close strong punch as a counter. It seems like SNK is trying to make KoF XII a more defensively based fighter.

Also arriving this week is the XBLA version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Boasting a staggering 55 characters, MvC2 features intense three vs. three fighting. The new downloadable version also comes packing some modern conventions like: online match making, HD up-scaling options, widescreen options and customizable music options. Personally MvC2 is one of my favorite fighting games. If you missed it the first time around, don’t let it slip past again.

The new games this week are:

Xbox 360

  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Xbox Live Arcade)
  • The King of Fighters XII Read more »

ecb79de3b938e3c6416d814791a70c7a_gameI got some bad news guys. This week’s Release Roundup brings absolutely nothing worth you time. Alright that may be a little out of hand, but I can guarantee you that every new title this week would fall into the category of shovel ware.

This week’s big release is G-Force, a game based off Disney’s new movie about secret agent guinea pigs. The only cool thing about this game is that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions feature an anaglyph-based stereoscopic 3D mode, and is packaged with two sets of 3D glasses. Other than that it’s pretty forgettable.

This week’s new games are:

Xbox 360

  • G-Force
  • Rock Band Country Track Pack
  • Watchmen: The End is Nigh - The Complete Experience Read more »

Release Roundup: July 12

250px-monkeyislandspecialI hate to say it, but this week’s Release Roundup is pretty sparse. The only game that sparks my interest is the remake of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition.

For those of you who don’t know, The Secret of Monkey Island is a classic adventure game made by LucasArts. The Special Edition features new character art, hand painted environments, a re-mastered score, and full voice acting. If you guys haven’t played Monkey Island before, you might want to pick it up. It’s one of the funniest and well made adventure games.

The games coming out this week are:

Xbox 360

  • NCAA Football 10
  • The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (Xbox Live Arcade) Read more »
