Although the story made the rounds a month ago on techwatch blog TechCrunch, Electronic Arts has just now made the news official.

The megapublisher purchased ThreeSF (founded by Shawn Fanning of Napster fame), makers of Rupture, a gaming social networking platform that keeps track of achievements across numerous PC and Xbox 360 games.

Rupture began its tracking with a World of Warcraft UI mod, but has now expanded to include Halo 3, Guitar Hero III, Team Fortress 2 and Madden 08.
