PC Gamers will be pleased to know that the three months spent waiting for Volition’s sandbox shooter Red Faction: Guerrilla to be ported over from the consoles wasn’t for nothing. All sorts of bonus features have been added in hopes of making the wait worth while.
The Games for Windows Live version will come with the “Demons of the Badlands” DLC, bonus Wrecking Crew maps, two exclusive multiplayer maps, and the Bagman mode from the upcoming DLC.
Red Faction Guerrilla will finally arrive on the PC Sept. 15. If you are in a pre-ordering mood, you might want to check out Steam and Impulse. Both are offering the first two Red Factions for free with a $39.99 pre-order of Guerrilla.
Today Visceral Games announced that the Wii shooter Dead Space: Extraction has gone gold and will arrive on Sept. 29.
In celebration of this news, publisher EA announced that “participating retailers” are offering a pre-order deal. If you pre-order Dead Space: Extraction, you will receive a code that unlock some challenge modes. Without the code, gamers will have to earn these challenge modes by completing in-game challenges.
Dead Space: Extraction is a prequel to the popular horror shooter Dead Space which arrived on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2008. Extraction is an on-rails shooter that features two player co-op and “an important new heroine to the Dead Space universe.”
Today at GamesCom, Housemarque, developer of Super Stardust HD, revealed a new zombie shooter exclusive to the PS3.
Dubbed Dead Nation, the downloadable title features a top-down perspective, dynamic lighting, and more zombies than you can shake a chainsaw at. While little else is known about the title, we can gather from the trailer that there will be several different weapons and a world map that, I assume, lets you pick which level you want to play.
As of now no release date or price point has been announced. As soon as official word arrives, you can be sure I’ll post it here on The Wire.
Today Pandemic Studios announced that its latest endeavor, The Saboteur, will hit the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on Dec 8.
In this open-world WWII game, players take on the role of Sean Devlin, a resistance fighter in Nazi-occupied France. One cool feature of The Saboteur is its color scheme. Everything is done in gray scale, but as Devlin becomes more famous/infamous, color returns to the world.
All in all it sounds like a pretty cool title. I just hope that it is unique enough to stand out from the hundreds of WWII shooters.
If there is one third party game that Wii fans are interested in, it’s Dead Space: Extraction. Many gamers are curious if the horror aspect of Dead Space can be recreated with the Wii’s motion controls. Today Visceral Games released a video that should help put gamers at ease.
The new trailer showcases Dead space: Extraction’s motion controls. From the looks of things, Extraction seems to be shaping up nicely. Visceral really seems dedicated to producing an on rails shooter that takes full advantage of motion controls while not making them feel excessive.
Dead Space: Extraction is slated to hit stores Sept. 29.
In the ladder phase of GGL’s Resistance: Retribution tournament, the field of play consists of rough and ready regulars. While many of the teams in the top 64 are in no danger of losing their spots, some skirmishes are still taking place around the top five. We’ll list them out for you here and see what’s in store for these teams in the future:
2v2 owners ARJUN have held the lead so long, I’m starting to forget that anyone else could be in first place. Meanwhile, s.o.u.l snatched the #2 spot from S1lent F0rce and BrothersinArms knocked Retribution out of spot five.
Does the first seed mean enough to go to war over before the brackets start? We’ll keep you updated on the happenings as we roll over. With $25,000 in Sony prizes on the line, teams are sure to be playing for keeps.
While the trailer doesn’t show any gameplay footage, it does build up the story a little. As expected, the titular heroes must save the universe from some unknown bad guy who seeks to exploit tame travel for his/her own gain.
What do you guys think? Does this trailer get you excited for the next chapter of Ratchet & Clank? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
Today it was announced that Ratchet and Clank will return to the PS3 this fall in Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.
While Ratchet and Clank travel though time, the duo will find answers to some of the franchise’s biggest questions. Gamers will discover the origin of the titular characters, as well as their ultimate destinies. The official announcement poses the question, “Do Ratchet and Clank’s destinies lie with each other? Or is it finally time for the universe’s greatest duo to separate for good?”
The only real detail we have about A Crack in Time is that it will use the same engine that was used in Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty. As more details arrive, you can be sure I’ll post them here on the Wire.

Yesterday I wrote up a little article about the upcoming Wii light-gun shooter, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. Today, as expected, Capcom officially announced the game, revealing that it will hit stores this winter.
Capcom also revealed that both the Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil Zero are on their way to the Wii. Both titles will be the GameCube versions with added Wiimote controls. Capcom expects both “classic” Resident Evil titles to arrive sometime this year for $29.99.
According to the Japanese game magazine Famitsu, there is a new Resident Evil light-gun shooter coming out for the Wii.
Titled Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, the shooter will be similar to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chonicles. While the details are sparse, we know that players will get relive the action from Resident Evil 2 in light-gun form, however I expect that other RE games, like Code Veronica, will sneak in there too.
The major difference between Darkside Chronicles and Umbrella Chonicles is that Darkside will be more accessible to players and will focus on replayability rather than plot.
You guys can expect an article full of details when the game is officially announced by Capcom tomorrow.
Remember last week when I wrote about Capcom announcing a new game via Xbox Live? Sure you do. Well, today was the day and Capcom made good on their word by announcing Lost Planet 2.
From the trailer, the first noticeable difference is that part of the game will take place in a rain forest environment, a stark change from the original snow covered Lost Planet.
So far, only an Xbox 360 version has been announced, however it is expected, because the original Lost Planet was multiplatform, that a PC and PS3 version will be announced shortly.
As more information arrives, you can expect to see it here on the Wire.
Remember when I said that I would make a post regarding House of the Dead: Overkill’s release date once it was announced? Sure you do. Well today is the day, light-gun fans. Sega announced that HotD:Overkill will hit stores on Feb. 10.
I can’t wait for this game. I have always had a thing for light-gun games, especially ones that deal with zombies. I’m such a big fan of House of the Dead that I almost dropped about $2000 on a HotD 2 arcade machine. Fortunately for me, I came to my senses and bought a new computer instead. Thanks to Overkill, I now have a reason to turn on my Wii other than drunken Super Mario World.
