Today it was revealed on GameStop, that Spore will be getting a Galactic Edition. “What’s the difference?” you ask. Well aside from the $80 price, gamers will be treated to a “Making of” DVD, a DVD from the National Geographic Channel titled “How to Build a Better Being”, a mini art book, a poster and finally a 100-page “Galactic Handbook”.

Quite the collection for $30 more. If I was super excited about Spore, I’d get this in a heart beat, but I’m not. In all reality, I’ll probably get roped into buying this. It comes out just in time for my girlfriend’s birthday… and she loves Will Wright games.

Today on Epileptic Gaming:

We mourn the loss of Robert Summa, who is missing in action at Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. Last we heard, he was involved in a gang war between three rival sets. Here are the talking points and previews of the day, but not in this particular order:

1) Army of Two special preview
2) Rainbow Six Vegas 2 special preview
3) Up All Night: Burnout Paradise teaser (show release today at upallnight.ggl.com)
4) We’ll attempt to establish radio contact with Summa in San Francisco, probably in the midst of a firefight between five rival gangs.
5) Discussion: Are PC games really dead? We hear from one of the guys working on Spore, who makes a convincing argument…but does it hold water?

Join us live today at 7PM ET/4PM PT on epilepticgaming.ggl.com and wire.ggl.com, thanks to the magic of Stickam and uStream!

Some of you might have picked up that I am a huge PC gamer. I’ve been gaming on PCs all my life and I happen to believe that the experience you get from PC gaming is just better in every way when compared to consoles. Call me an elitist if you will, but that’s just how I feel.

Well, as consoles get more and more advanced, critics are quick to say that PC gaming is dead. Next-Generation online says otherwise. They have posted an article on the top PC games of 2008. The list includes: Sam & Max: Season Two episodes, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Far Cry 2, Stalker: Clear Sky, Left 4 Dead, Spore and Fallout 3, just to name a few. The rest of the list can be found here.

Nothing makes my day like seeing PC gaming get the attention it deserves. If you have any thoughts on PC gaming, feel free to leave a comment letting me know what you think.

Will Wright: ‘The only next gen system I’ve seen is the Wii’In an interview with The Guardian, Sims and Spore creator Will Wright expresses some surprising opinions about the next-generation consoles.

Somebody asked me what I thought next generation meant and what about the PlayStation 3 was next generation. The only next gen system I’ve seen is the Wii – the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement. But the Wii feels like a major jump – not that the graphics are more powerful, but that it hits a completely different demographic. In some sense I see the Wii as the most significant thing that’s happened, at least on the console side, in quite a while. Continued…

Spore. Where do we even start with Spore? Well, we could start with a single living cell and from there go on to conquering space. How does that sound? This is what EA’s game is.

Most people with but a little interest in videogames will know what the game is. For those that do not know it, here is a brief rundown:

The game has got five stages. The first one is where you start off in a tiny drop of water and try to survive and feed the single cell. Then you go to land, make babies with female creatures of your kind, then you start a settlement, turn it into a city, conquer continents, planets, solar systems and… entire universes.

Along the way, you get to choose how your cell develops, what it becomes and how it behaves in the future. Throughout the entire game, you will be able to have full control over where your cell / creature / civilization is headed. Based on your choices in the editor, the game figures out how whatever you did there will affect the world and behave in it.

In theory, the possibilities are endless.

At Games Convention, Wire has had the opportunity to get a preview of the game and an interview with one of the developers. Take a look:

After an absence at E3, many had been wondering what was up with Spore. You know, Spore, that really innovative next big thing by Will Wright? Yeah, that game. Well, it seems maybe EA was waiting for the Games Convention to give us the newest taste of this title. Hit the jump to see all the latest videos to come out of Germany today.
