Today LucasArts announced that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will not be coming out on PC. According to Cameron Suey, producer of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: “[If we made the game for high-end PCs], someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn’t be the same game. On the other hand if we made that game for as many people as possible then it’s not taking advantage of what those $4,000 systems can do.”
This news is heart breaking to me. I have been a long time supporter of LucasArts, in particular their PC titles. Now they go an turn their back on the demographic that has supported them for so long. Long gone are the days of playing Star Wars games on a platform with superior controls and better graphics. There will be no more tweaking of systems to pull better frame rates when using force lighting. We have entered the uninspired world of console gaming.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will arrive in the U.S. on Sept. 15. Asia and Australia have to wait until Sept. 17 and Europe gets it Sept. 19. The game will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, Nintendo DS and PSP.
The game takes place between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode: IV A New Hope. Players will assume the role of Darth Vader’s apprentice during his quest to eliminate the Jedi.
As your typical Star Wars nerd, I will be eagerly waiting this title. The real question is, which platform should I get it on?
The universe of Soul Calibur is no stranger to cameos. First Spawn, Link and that guy from Tekken. Now Darth Vader and Yoda are joining in on the action. A gallery of photos has been released by 1UP. I gather two things from the pictures: both will be fighting with lightsabers (wouldn’t they just cut through the swords?), and Yoda looks ridiculous.
All jokes aside, I am really excited about this. I am a huge Star Wars nerd and the prospect of playing as the ultimate badass, Darth Vader, has the eight-year old in me on the edge of his seat.
There is some speculation that there might be more characters from the Star Wars universe joining in on the action. According to the 1UP article:
“It’s unlikely that the company would go through all these negotiations with LucasArts to obtain the rights to only two characters, so expect more announcements as we get closer to SCIV’s release date.”
Let’s hope 1up is right and that I can fulfill my fantasy of becoming a Tusken Raider.
Gamers have been salivating over the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, supposedly the first game to let you use your Wii Remote to control a lightsaber.
In fact, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga comes out next month, beating Force Unleashed by at least a fiscal quarter. And the new LEGO Star Wars does in fact let you swing your ’saber with your condom-covered Wiimote. Continued…
First Strike is a just-released Star Wars mod for DICE’s Battlefield 2142 FPS.
The video claims to be all in-game footage, and as such is pretty damn impressive. The game takes place in the early days of the Galactic Empire, when the Rebel Alliance makes its first strikes against Palpatine.
The beta version of the mod is available here for download. You will need BF 2142 to play.
