With Flash claiming the StarCraft GOMTV GSI title for himself, Stork is now grasping for the OSL. Flash, considered on of the top Terrans in the world, has been gaining momentum, rolling over so many opponents lately. With his GOMTV win, he turned from a dark horse into a crowd favorite. Showing he can defeat Stork despite stacked odds against him, Flash will sit down once again to prove his victory was not a fluke.Stork is arguably the top Protoss player to set foot on the proleague scene today. Excluding Flash, Stork has only lost one PvT game to Iris (later on in GSI event he would sweep Iris 3-0). He can multitask and optimize every move, balancing micro and macro to an incredible degree even among players in his class. Stork demonstrates the full potential of the Protoss races in his games, never disappointing spectators.

While the players are clashing for a rematch, the maps have changed for this set.

The GSI comes to a close soon, with only two players remaining. Their paths to this match were long and hard-fought against other invitees. Proxy builds, cheese plays, and guerilla drops all played their role in bringing us to this final moment.

Flash’s path:

Flash > Savior, AnyTime, Mind in group play
Jaedong, AnyTime in elimination stage

Flash is on fire now, playing with unparalleled poise. He rose out of his group 3-0, then pushed out two favorites for event. His play against AnyTime in the semi-finals match on Blue Storm was incredible in both games. He managed to spot proxy gateways and adapted to AnyTime’s strategies each game. Though he took a loss on Katrina, a quick game on Baekmagoji tallied one more point in his favor. At a critical juncture in the match, Flash subtly moved a barracks and landed it to trap AnyTime’s units, changing their pathing into Flash’s favor. Unable to quickly finish the game on the second Blue Storm game, AnyTime bowed out after an all-in attack. Continued…

Group play of the StarCraft GOMTV Star Invitational has concluded, with the two best players from each group advancing to the single elimination brackets. Four Protoss, three Terran, and one Zerg continue to duel for prestige and honor. Only the top players will survive, facing a best of three match in the Round of 8.

The map set follows (as reported by TeamLiquid) :

Blue Storm
Katrina
Baekmagoji

Quick analysis: It’s interesting to see two maps with 1v1 setups, sandwiching Katrina, a very controversial map.

The Matchups

Flash (Terran) v Jaedong (Zerg)

Flash really surprised me. Not only did he win out of his group 3-0, but he managed to really rise up and show everyone why he’s here. Jaedong took a strange loss and came out of his group 2-1. Some experts claim he threw the match to avoid playing his teammate so early on. Either way, these players aren’t going down easy, especially with Jaedong as the only Zerg making it out of group play. Both of them are not ready to back down.

With Jaedong on fire and Flash in shape, expect this to go to three maps.

BlueStorm: Jaedong > Flash
Katrina: Flash > Jaedong
Baekmagoji: Flash > Jaedong

Flash advances (2-1). Continued…

Group C of the StarCraft GOMTV Star Invitational follows up with some potentially awesome games to watch. Stork looks like one of the favorites to win this event, while all the other players are close to being in top shape. Interestingly enough, there are no Zergs in this set. Expect tanks and dragoons galore tonight.

Visit the GOMTV schedule page to find out when this is all going down.

Also keep in mind that these matches are all being shoutcasted in English by Nick “Tasteless” Plott. GOMTV considers this a test-run for Tasteless, and future employment for him (and English StarCraft enjoyment for us) hinges on his viewership numbers. So, hit the GOMTV GSI video on demand page to view completed games, as well as the aforementioned match schedule page to see when the next battle begins.

Name: Byung-Goo Song
Alias: Stork
Race: Protoss
Team: Samsung KHAN Continued…

You want to talk about a beastly StarCraft player? The numbers don’t lie: Song “Stork” Byung Goo boasts a 75-33 for the year of 2007 inside Korea. That’s 75 wins, 33 losses, and a lot of beatings for some more universally-loved players.

Aside from the whippings, though, Stork stands out for something else. He made headlines earlier this year for throwing matches at the WCG in an effort to position Korea’s players for a sweep of the StarCraft medals. Say what you will about nationalistic pride, but many (myself included) felt that he went too far, even if it is a common strategy.

In the end, true skill prevailed. What I mean by that is that Stork beat Chinese maestro PJ to win the WCG even with the match-throwing controversy hovering over his head.

Unfortunately for Stork, even though he found himself in the Ever OSL Finals, he lost three games to one against JaeDong in the final.

Stork will next see action in 2008 in round 2 of the Shinhan Bank Proleague teamplay competition vs. WeMade FOX.

Song “Stork” Byung Goo has advanced to the StarCraft Ever OSL Finals after defeating 3 time MSL winner Kim “Bisu” Taek Yong. The two protoss players met in a best of 5 match up with Stork winning 3-0 on the maps Persona, Fantasy II and Blue Storm.

Stork playing StarCraft at the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final

Stork takes on Lee “Jaedong” Jae Dong next Saturday, Dec. 21 for the finals in a Best of 5. The runners up, Bisu and Shin “Upmagic” Hee Seung, will meet for the 3rd place match on Tuesday Dec. 18th.

VODs will be availible at www.youtube.com/jon747 within the next few days.

KeSPA has released its ranking of StarCrraft professionals for November. The world’s most fearsome Protoss, Kim “Bisu” Taek Yong, is back on top of it.

The Koren eSports Players Association, among other activities, runs a ranking of the best SC players in the country. It is a calculation of points awarded based on winning percentage of players in major and minor events that took place within the past three months.

After a one-month stint in fourth place, the “Zerg killer” Bisu has regained his lead in the ranking. Other than Bisu pipping Song “Stork” Byung Goo for first place, there were very few significant changes in the top 10. Ma “sAviOr” Jae Yoon, August’s leader, is staying in a safe third place.

See the ranking below:

1. Bisu (Protoss) +1
2. Stork (Protoss) -1
3. sAviOr (Zerg) -
4. IriS (Terran) -
5. Hwasin (Terran) -
6. Sea (Terran) -
7. GGplay (Zerg) +1
8. free (Protoss) +3
9. NaDa (Terran) -2
10. JaeDonG (Zerg) -
