Capcom finally let loose details about Street Fighter IV’s console release dates. The game will hit the U.S. Feb. 17, 2009 and EU Feb. 18, 2009.
Unfortunately, the PC version still has no release date, but at least PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gamers will have something to look forward to in the next three months.
Street Figher fanatics already know, but Gouken started out as an April Fool’s joke in EGM, based off a mistranslation in Ryu’s Street Fighter II victory text. He has since, however, made it into Street Fighter IV as a real character.
Gouken’s style is a slower Shotokan clone that resembles Akuma’s. Big hits and one-handed fireballs abound. Here’s the trailer:
Enough with the teasing already. I feel like one of those pigeons scientists use in intermittent reward experiments where that have to peck a button to get fed, only it never happens. Every day I’m on the lookout for a Street Fighter IV U.S. console date, and every day, I go hungry.
Capcom revealed that its console ports of SFIV will hit Japan in February, with the first orders coming with the Street Fighter IV anime film Street Fighter: Renewed Bonds. That’s great, but what about U.S. gamers?
There’s still no word on the U.S. date for the game. Peck, peck, peck.
Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono dropped a telling hint when speaking to the staff of G4’s X-Play about the release of the game on consoles. He said:
There is no official North American arcade release, so we kind of feel bad that you guys have to wait for it. That’s why we’re trying to get it to you as soon as possible. Before the Japanese have a really long period of time to get really good at it first and totally kick your butt online…We don’t want to start rumors that it’s this year, but definitely this winter. At some point you’ll be sitting in you winter coat looking at snow out the window…and right then we’ll kind of heat you up a little with some hot street fighter action so look forward to that.
What does this mean? If you ask me, they’re missing Christmas, but you’ll see the game in early ‘09. That’s a shame because I was promising a friend I’d own his face over Christmas in SFIV, but now I have to settle for just hiding his toilet paper.
Today Street fighter Alpha fan can rest easy. It has been confirmed that Sakura will join the cast of Street Fighter IV’s console release. Also joining is Seth, the boss of SFIV’s arcade version. This brings the console exclusive character total to five, including Dan, Cammy and Fei-Long.
As somewhat of a Street Fighter connoisseur, this news makes my day. There is nothing like owning a fireball spammer by exploiting Sakura’s arcing hurricane kick.
Street Fighter IV is currently being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. No release date has been announced yet, however many predict that it will be out by early 2009.
