I guess it turns out that Six Days in Fallujah is a bit more controversial than Konami originally thought. Today it announced that Konami has dropped Atomic Games’s military shooter.
A Konami representative stated, “After seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it.”
Six Days in Fallujah was being marketed as a realistic portrayal of the second battle of Fallujah in Iraq. In order to accomplish this, Atomic Games has brought on several solders, who has fought in the battle, as consultants. Despite this input, many were upset about how unrealistic the game was.
As of right now, the status of Six Days in Fallujah is unknown. Without someone to publish the game Atomic games might be in some serious trouble. AS soon as more information arrives, you can be sure I’ll post it here on the Wire.

Today Konami announced a new third-person shooter, developed by Atomic Games, titled Six Days in Fallujah. The game is being marketed as a realistic depiction of the battle for Fallujah in the on going conflict in Iraq.
President of Atomic Games, Peter Tamte, told the Wall Street Journal, “We replicate a specific and accurate timeline–we mean six days literally. We track several units through the process and you get to know what it was like from day to day.”
According to Atomic Games, it has conducted extensive research on the battle. In order to avoid controversy, Atomic Games has hired more than three dozen US soldiers who fought in Fallujah as consultants. Eddie Garcia, a Marine sergeant serving as a consultant, stated that the game will “add some humanity to the subject.”
Garcia went on to say, “It’s easy to be an armchair quarterback [about war] when you’re at home. There were 19-year-olds in the Marines making life-altering changes.”
Obviously there is some controversy surrounding the subject matter. Konomi marketing VP Anthony Crouts stated, “We’re not pro-war. We’re not trying to make people feel uncomfortable. We just want to bring a compelling entertainment experience. At the end of the day, it’s just a game.”
Six Days in Fallujah is slated to arrive sometime in 2010. It is currently being developed for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Today Volition revealed the first batch of DLC for Saints Row 2.
Titled “Ultor Exposed,” the DLC features a new set of missions where adult entertainment star Tera Patrick, who plays an Ultor microbiologist, teams up with the Third Street Saints to bring down the evil corporation Ultor.
Aside from the new missions the DLC brings six new vehicles, four multiplayer maps, a new Competitive Coop mode and plenty of new character customization options.
The Ultor Exposed pack hits Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store April 16 and will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10).
Volition has only announced the DLC for PS3 and Xbox 360. PC Gamers shouldn’t feel left out though; Saints Row requires Steam, which just implemented a way to distribute DLC. Hopefully down the line the DLC will find its way onto the PC.
This morning Rockstar Games announced that Max Payne 3 is under development by Rockstar Vancouver, the guys who made Bully, and is expected to hit the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 this winter.
According to the announcement, Max Payne 3 finds the titular character old and retired, “embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.”
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, stated: “We’re starting a new chapter of Max’s life with this game. This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.”
I have always been a huge fan of the Max Payne series. No other game seems to have the perfect blend of Noir story telling and John Woo run and gun action. I guess I’ll have to redownload the first two Max Payne games off Steam to help kill time until the winter release.
Yesterday EA announced that Army of Two is getting a sequel. Dubbed Army of Two: The 40th Day, players will once again take the roles of Salem or Rios as they blast their way though a ruined Shanghai, China. As players move through the city they will uncover the secret of the 40th day.
According to EA, players can expect move of the same great co-op action, as well as some new stuff. Players will have access to more co-op moves, which create a more “organic and immersive” gameplay experience.
Army of Two: The 40th Day is currently being developed for PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP. It is due out this winter.
Today EA sent word that The Godfather II has gone gold. The third-person shooter, developed by EA’s Redwood Shores studio, will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on April 7.
The Godfather II comes with plenty of new features that shakes up the old gameplay. One new feature is the “Don’s View,” which is a strategic map showing all the territory that belongs to your family, as well as rival’s.
Another big feature is customization. The Godfather II will allow gamers to customize their AI-controlled crew. This plays a major role in gameplay because all the action comes in the form of squad based combat.
The Godfather II will also feature 16 player multiplayer. When playing multiplayer, gamers will have to chance to gain money and new weapons in the single player campaign.
Sounds like a pretty cool combo of GTA and Brothers in Arms. Hopefully I can scrounge up some extra cash and pick this game up. If it’s any good, you can be sure I’ll make a post here on the Wire.
This week’s Release Roundup brings us one of the most anticipated games of the year, Resident Evil 5.
RE5 is the seventh game in the Resident Evil series and picks up after Leon’s adventures in RE4. Players will take control of Chris Redfield (or Sheva Alomar in co-op) as he travels to the made-up country of Kijuju in Africa to investigate/combat the spread of the parasites from RE4.
RE5 marks the first game in the RE series to be on current generation consoles. It is also the first RE game to feature co-op. Needless to say, expectations are high.
I’m glad someone finally committed to a game that has some violence in it for the Wii; now hopefully grown-ups can get some use out of the system. Yes, I went there.
Some new MadWorld footage came out of the New York Comic Con this weekend displaying some highly satisfying beat-em-up gameplay, using the WiiMote to control the action. See the gameplay videos below followed by a promo trailer for the game.
Developed by Platinum Games and published by SEGA, MadWorld will hit stores in North America March 10, March 13 (EU) and March 26 (AUS).
I must say I despise teaser trailers that show barely any real gameplay, but as a Transformers nerd at heart, I’m willing to give this game some love.
Activision’s upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie tie-in promises to be better than the first game due to a change in developers, inclusion of multiplayer and a wider variety of robots to control. Check it:
