New Skate 2 DLC is for the “lazy”

People tend to think of gamers as lazy. It’s an unfortunate stereotype, but if we gather anything from the new Skate 2 DLC, titled “Time Is Money”, it might be true.

The new Skate 2 DLC, if it can really be called that, unlocks all the content in the game for 400 Microsoft Points ($5). Why anyone would pay for something they can get for free by putting in a little time an effort is beyond me.

The description reads: “If you are busy, or just plain lazy, ‘Time is Money’ will unlock all locations, skaters and gear that can be earned by playing through Skate 2’s career and online modes.”

I would be very interested to see how many downloads this bit of DLC gets.

Tomb Raider: Underworld DLC dated

Xbox 360 owners have been anxiously waiting for any information about the exclusive DLC for Tomb Raider: Underworld. Today Eidos revealed that the first level pack, titled “Beneath the Ashes,” will hit Xbox Live Marketplace on Feb. 10.

“Beneath the Ashes” picks up right after the end of the main game. Lara Croft will be able to explore the “never-before-seen” cavers under her destroyed mansion. Eidos also revealed that six new costumes and new achievements are included in the DLC as well.

The second episode, titled “Lara’s shadow,” is now scheduled for release on Mar. 10. The pack is said to add “a new kind of playable character” to the mix.

No price has been announced for either pack, however Gamestop has announced that they will be selling a bundle containing codes to get the two packs for $20.

Resident Evil 5 demo hits “early 2009″

Horror and action junkies alike are counting down the days until Resident Evil 5 hits stores. Unfortunately for us RE 5 doesn’t come out until March 13. In hopes of satiating our zombie-like craving for blood (and good third-person action) Capcom announced today that a RE 5 demo will come to the U.S. in early 2009. Hopefully by “early 2009″ Capcom means Jan. 2.

The demo will feature two levels and is said to include both online and offline co-op. As soon as a solid release date is given for the demo, you can be sure I’ll post it here.

LucasArts releases mission pack for Force Unleashed

Today LucasArts released a bit of DLC for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the Xbox 360. This download is far from the character skins you have come to expect. In fact, it is a whole new mission.

Dubbed The Jedi Temple Mission Pack, the DLC brings Vader’s Apprentice to Coruscant. Here gamers will find the ruins of the Jedi Temple as they search for information on the identity of their father. The Jedi Temple Mission Pack costs 800 Microsoft Points ($10).

There was no word as to if The Jedi temple Mission Pack will arrive on the PS3. If there is an announcement, you can be sure I’ll post it here on the Wire.

Capcom reveals SF2THDR release date & price

Today Capcom announced on the PlayStation Blog that Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will arrive on the PlayStation Store Tuesday, Nov. 25. Capcom also revealed that SF2THDR is going to cost $14.99. With this announcement coming from Capcom, I feel safe in assuming that the Xbox Live Arcade version will be released on Wednesday, Nov. 26, costing 1200 Microsoft points ($15).

Capcom also announced that gamers who buy SF2THDR on the PlayStation 3 will get access to the Street Fighter Underground Remix Soundtrack. The soundtrack is a downloadable album featuring Street Fighter inspired songs by artists such as Redman, Hieroglyphics, DJ Qbert, DJ Toure, Zion I, Mistah F.A.B. and Oh No.

New Xbox Experience image leaks SF2THDR release date

Today an image of the New Xbox Experience surfaced, showing a release date for Backbone Entertainment’s Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. according to the screen shot, SF2THDR will be arriving next Wednesday, Nov. 26. While this is still in rumor territory, I have strong reason to believe that it’s true. Capcom previously stated that SF2THDR would be arriving sometime in Nov. Seeing as next week is the last week in Nov, common sense tells us that this rumor must be true. Assuming that the Xbox release date is true, PlayStation 3 gamers can expect SF2THDR on Thursday, Nov. 27 as part of the weekly PlayStation store update. Unfortunately there has been no price has been announced.

It seems like I have been waiting for SF2THDR for years. I firmly believe that Street Fighter 2 is the greatest fighting game ever made. Countless hours of my life have been spent playing SF2 and I can’t wait to take this tradition to the next level. My friends and I have even planned a party for when SF2THDR is released. Now that there is a solid date, I have some phone calls to make.

Now Xbox Experience arrives tomorrow

Tomorrow the general public gets their hands on the New Xbox Experience. This update, which is far more than the dashboard updates we’ve comes to expect, provides gamers with a much more user friendly experience.

The first major change gamers are going to notice is that the old 2D blades menus are gone. In their place will be a slick 3D interface that allows for less obnoxious advertisements and easy navigation. For those of you who want to keep the familiar blades system, don’t fret. If you tap the Guide button, a miniature blades system appears and allows for quick navigation.

Another obvious change is the inclusion of Avatars. Much like the Miis on the Wii, the new Avatars represent your Gamertag when playing games like Scene It? Box Office Smash, UNO, Bomberman Live, Hardwood Hearts, Hardwood Spades and A Kingdom for Keflings. The creation process is pretty simple. You just pick a generic template and modify it until it looks how you want. In the future, it wouldn’t surprise me to see new customization options as you unlock Achievements.

XBLA Sale:Feeding Frenzy, Worms, and UMK3 for $5

Hardcore XBLA fans might have been a little confused today when Microsoft didn’t release any new XBLA titles. Instead three classic XBLA titles will be joining the Arcade Hits lineup. For those of you who don’t know, Arcade Hits titles get a 50% price cut. This weeks Arcade Hits include Feeding Frenzy, Worms and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Each of these games has been discounted to 400 Microsoft points ($5).

UMK3 for $5 is a damn good deal. Tonight my roommate and I plan of reliving our childhoods by trying to execute every fatality for each character. Wish us luck!

Mirror’s Edge demo arrives this week

There is no doubt that Mirror’s Edge is one of the most anticipated games of this year. It offers a fresh look on the first-person shooter genre. Unfortunately, whenever there is a new take on something, people are going to be hesitant to throw down money on it. That is why EA is releasing a demo for Mirror’s Edge.

Arriving tomorrow, Oct. 30, on the PlayStation Network and then Xbox Live Marketplace the day after, Oct. 31, the demo will feature “the prologue of the game, a tutorial and a segment of the single-player story mode.”

Sounds great to me. Hopefully tomorrow i can pry myself away from Fallout 3 long enough to download the demo.
